Maybe user error here, but I’ve spent hours trying to figure out how to turn off guide points on the free viewer for ipad. I have pro, so not a problem. But I have framers on site using my models, and they end up with a huge mess of guide points, because every time they measure something it creates a guide point. Like how can this be the default. I just need a viewer that the crews on site can measure, view scenes, and toggle tags. Like that is it. So simple. Sorry if this is a bit of a rant, but ■■■■.
You can create a scene that has guides turn on and another where guides are turned off.
The viewer shouldn’t be able to save measurements that are viewed, it certainly doesn’t on the web viewer.
The SketchUp viewer has access to scenes, so users should be able to toggle those states.

I don’t have the viewer version to test this, but on the full iPad version, you can two finger tap for Undo after using the tape measure and leaving a guide point. The distance even still remains in the dimension box.
Yeah I guess I expected the default to not have a bunch of guide points littered across the model. I ended up getting a dummy account and signed in to the free app for ipad to see what the carpenters on site are dealing with. As far as I can tell, you have to just deal with it. Exiting and coming back to the project seems to reset and deleted them. Still annoying though. Maybe this default is sketchup trying to get people to upgrade? If the app isn’t free and easy to use, the workers won’t use it, which makes it a struggle to get the project to flow well. Anyway, thanks for the advice. If anyone has a better workflow, I’m all ears. It would be amazing if there was a stripped down version that was stupid simple. Just view 3d model, measure anything(without leaving guide points) select scenes, and toggle tags. That’s it. Everything else completely hidden.
You shouldn’t be using the free version for commercial work. Even if it’s just ‘the guys in the field’. The guys swinging hammers and firing nail guns aren’t using free versions of those tools - you should pay for the software too.
Maybe you don’t understand. Every major construction and design software on earth—from Procore and Autodesk to Bluebeam—offers free view-only tiers for exactly this reason. The office creates and pays for the data; the field just needs to view it to build it right. Expecting a framing crew to buy full authoring licenses just to check a dimension is completely out of touch with how actual job sites operate.
The free viewers are intended to allow non-subscribtion holders to view models but no other real features are available for free.
The viewer literally has measurement , scenes and tags as you’ve described. That’s about all you can do - are you using the free editor rather than the viewer?
I have a pro subscription. The guys on site are asking how to delete guide points. Every time they need a measurement from my model, they get a guide point and can’t delete it. I figured it would be super simple, but you just can’t do it i guess.
I think it’s a fair request. If you think about it, if the app is truly a viewer, how is the user allowed to create entities (in this case a guide point entity)? The use case is comparable to a Kindle reader app for published books.
I still think it’s a bug that it draws them at all , it’s the same tool as the main version - I tried it on the iPad and I could see them being drawn all over.
It doesn’t save them at least, so you can click out and in and they will all be gone.
The workaround would be to send them the file with guides turned off - then they would never see any they made .
Yeah, I didn’t know you could go out and back in, and they would disappear until i tried on the free version. Good enough for now
