It would really save some money for those of us who only need to draw rectangles. I mean, why do they need to include EVERY tool/function in a license. We should be able to buy just SketchUp with NO tools, and then each tool we add to it could be, like. another $0.15 or something.
That is not how custom pricing works… each tool would be like $150 + the base cost + administration fee, etc.

SketchUp wasn’t conceived or implemented as an a-la-carte system. There is a core geometry and graphics engine on which all the tools are implemented. You’d have to pay for that core even if you want just a few tools. There’s no point in speculating over what the core price would vs the per-tool price. That’s a business decision Trimble would need to figure out to assure that they recover their development costs.
idk if you have that in y’all countries, stuff like “build a model replica of the titanic, every week at your news stand. the first number, handrail number 69 and a brochure for 0.99”
that would also be a fun way to pay for the tool.

Ha, this is funny. I get it. Maybe there could be a daily rental system where you call up each morning and wait on hold to talk to a representative about which 7 tools you would like to rent for the day. Or by the hour?
Or for that matter can I get a refund on one dimension, let’s say I just need z and x, how much for a Flatland 2D SketchUp? The disturbing thing is there are those who probably want that.
Good news. SketchUp for Web is already free, and it even comes with the other tools when you’re ready for them. 
Frankly, in 2026, I don’t think we should have to buy anything.

I find rectangles far too complex for my needs. I only need the line tool, which should then be about a quarter of the price of the rectangle tool option at $0.04…
