Why are my guidelines white, and how does it impact my modeling?

Preferably upload the skp model to look at.

I’ll try again. If you upload the model it would most likely be much easier to answer your question in a few hints. Instead of letting us guess from a screenshot. The solution could be a variety of things. I’m not unwilling to look at your model.
