What kind of 3 button scroll mouse is best for MAC OS 10.11.1

I use an inexpensive Logitech wireless mouse on my Mac. Just plug in the receiver and get busy.

@denisroy is right. The system interface for basic mice has been standard for so long that there are very few that won’t work. So, it comes down to two things: what feels most comfortable in your hand, and whether you want extra stuff such as more buttons, etc.

although ā€˜most’ 3 button scroll mouses used to work, I have had issues with older ones since El Capitan upgrade…

some have lost the middle button some the right button…

If it’s a laptop I would certainly try to ā€˜test drive’ a few…

John, this seems like a situation where negative info would be valuable since most mice work fine. Can you mention what brands and models have given you trouble on El Capitan?

Not an answer to what you asked, but just yesterday I found out that if you hold down control option command as you press the left mouse button (you can let go of those keys after you click), the mouse acts like you are doing s middle mouse button drag.

one is a genuine but old ā€˜Microsoft’ mouse and a couple of new cheap ā€˜branded clones’…

my old favourite ā€˜Logitech’ [running without additional driver] has also lost the middle button…

all are corded optical, so it’s not a ā€˜wireless’ issue…

the issues are system wide, so not a SU issue…

they all still work on my wife’s macBook, so I think it’s a system change…

When you say ā€œcorded opticalā€ I assume you mean a USB connection? Maybe El Cap changed something about USB that your mice don’t like. I have an old wireless MS mouse with a USB dongle, and it works fine.

Thanks guys. I bought a $13 Logitech today. Using it now, Havn’t had a chance to try it on sketchup yet but everything works. Thanks again!

I have trouble with the middle button on the ā€œmagic mouseā€ that came with my my new Mac, making if PAN in LayOut or ORBIT in SketchUp. downloaded something called MagicPrefs to program the buttons, but with limited luck.
my old collection of three button mice all seem to work fine.

I’ve found my Logitech M510 works very poorly on Mac (but well with a PC). The curser movement is very jerky and consequently difficult to use… I would prefer over magic mouse for the extra button features but its way too frustrating with the inaccuracy. So with a mac I’m ā€œstuckā€ using the MM but ill take smooth movement over extra buttons any day. I now have a space mouse and it is awesome, so now at least I have two buttons I can customize :stuck_out_tongue:
