Welcome to our forums! Please introduce yourself :)

It would help if you upload the .skp file so we can see what you’ve got and how it is set up.

FWIW, you needed SketchUp Pro anyway because you are using it commercially.

Hello,
I am Don Crochet and have used SU in the past many, many, many, years ago. I’ve decided at age 80 that I should get back into using it, however, I am surprised to know how much I have forgotten (or perhaps never learned) when I did use it. I don’t expect to become an expert but I need something to stimulate my brain, and this program is doing just that.
During my career in facilities maintenance I used 2D Auto Cad but always had the need and desire to learn 3D. I intend to use SU to design small wood framed projects. I have viewed many of the tutorials and have found them to be quite helpful and informative. I am a beginner and will bug you experts with questions,
Wish me luck.

Welcome, Don! @dcrochet7

Thanks for the advice . This file only has one item in it. But if i run that “Generate Report” function , it shows up as two different line items.

Hello Everyone

My name is Ant and I joined here about a year or so ago.
Anyway I have always been involved with landscaping, (since 8 years old) I am now 43, and what began as soft landscaping for the family business, evolved into hard landscaping in 1998 onwards. I have little experience with designing and only following site plans already drawn up. I have carried out a few basic designs using pen and paper and then finally switched to Sketchup around a year or so ago, which I am finding perfect. I am still a beginner though and will no doubt learn a lot from these forums. I am now beginning to come off the tools and spend most of my time doing the paperwork side of it and the designs, which I admittedly need to get better at.

I have lots of questions, so will post in other threads.

Nice to virtually meet you all.

Hi, Mike from BC, Canada.

I’ve been using SketchUp for years for lots of designs from woodworking projects to 164 acre property layouts and everything in between. I get by but don’t use the system anywhere near its potential.

Good Day Folks.
The name is Kevin and the Chosen name is The Steward. I’ve signed up for Sketchup as a total beginner and intent on designing a variety of alternative structures from primary dwellings to sheds, greenhouse, and sauna. I work as a practicing “Holistic Health Coach” and am studied and lightly practiced in Alternative Agriculture. I’m in the midst of developing a Homestead on 5 acres of land in Western Massachusetts. When not on Sketchup Singing, Dancing, Forest Explorations, and playing some instruments are all a part of the day. Look forward to satisfying and efficient design work here on Sketchup.

Hello

My name is Roger and I live in the UK.

I am experiencing a very steep (not to say sheer) learning this very impressive application.

Welcome Roger.

Start here: Getting Started with SketchUp for Web | SketchUp Help

And feel free to ask questions in the SketchUp Free category when you have them. Sharing your model files helps us help you, too.

Many thanks. Very useful.

The icons it describes on the right side of the SketchUp for Web interface differ from the icons I get. For example, the bottom one is Solid Inspector but it is not mentioned in description.

Solid Inspector is a relatively recent addition. The materials probably haven’t caught up with it yet.

Hi, I’m Sylvain from France,
I’m an amateur, dawing different kind of pieces to be 3D printed.
I’m not really beginner, I use Sketchup for few years now.
No models in 3DW… Maybe one day.

Cheers

What is your industry and profession? I’m a database/software developer

Where do you use SketchUp? Personally/professionally? I use SketchUp personally. I’m using it to build my own custom home.

Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? I like using SketchUp because it’s easy to learn compared to other CAD software.

How proficient are you in SketchUp? Intermediate

What is your current set up? Mac OS running 2021 with a Radeon VII.

Hi there SketchUp community. I’ve only been using SketchUp seriously for the past year and I’ve taken on an ambitious project. I’m designing (so far) my own ICF home and I’m finding out I need to collaborate with other professionals to make this project succeed in a better way. I’ve decided to start a YouTube channel to document pretty much anything and everything I learn while using SketchUp. I’ve been doing this (creating videos) normally for my regular job since 2003.

I’m hoping I can find professionals who might like to help contribute or collaborate on my project - either on camera or off. What I can offer is either exposure through the videos I create or teach you how to do what I do when it comes to creating videos for YouTube. You can take a peek at my proposal video here.

Hopefully, some people will be interested enough so I can learn about the areas I’m not yet experienced at with architecture, design, engineering and other aspects of using SketchUp to build a custom home (ICF at that).

-You can just call me Switch, just some random girl.
-I’m a student in high school
-Using it for personal projects but I aspire to use it more professionally when I actually enroll into an architecture school/course in future
-I use sketchup as a starting point for digital rendering. I like the fact that sketchup is suitable for 3d modelling. It’s generally simple to navigate and the plug ins and extensions offer greater flexibility for the type of structures that can be created.
-Beginner.
-3D Basecamp? Never even knew this existed until now :eyes:
-Simultaneously using SketchUp Free and Make 2017
-Other stuff I’d like to say:

  1. I started using sketchup to kill my boredom when I was diagnosed with covid and quarantined in my room
  2. I’m currently trying to model a train station that’s been recurring several times in my dreams now… some really bizarre events have been occuring there… like the Escalator of Doom for instance…
    -Favorite emoji: :sparkles:
-Long walks on the beach? Sure.

What is your industry and profession? I work for a heavy timber construction company but manly design and build natural and adventure playgrounds myself.

Personally/professionally? Definitely for work.

Why do you use SketchUp and what is your favorite thing about it? I started using SketchUp when I realized that my employer wasn’t going to pay for CADwork. My favorite thing about Skechup is being able to use one program for all design work, layout, total station, 2d shop drawings,

How proficient are you in SketchUp? Beginner, intermediate, advanced? I like to think as myself as a beginner so I have lots of room for improvement.

Have you gone to a SketchUp 3DBasecamp Nope, but thinking I should go in 2022 as it in my backyard.

What is your current set up? Nothing special, 8Gb ram and some sort of integrated video.

Do you have a 3D Warehouse page with your models, Extensions, or a website you would like to link to or show off to us? Probably not with the NDA.

What is your favorite Emoji? Don’t have one.

Do you enjoy long walks on The beach? Oh yes!

Hello there, I’m Dennis from Renfrewshire in Scotland.
Own SUP2017 and it’s easily both my favourite, and most used, software by a mile. It’s been so stable and capable for me that I’ve honestly never once considered joining this forum for help. Glad I have now though. I know I am going to learn more. Particularly love a productivity tip.
A download query and relating factors brought me here tonight.
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas.
Regards,
Dennis

Hello everyone

I’m Dhikey from Rupperswil in Switzerland.

I don’t even remember when we started working with Sketchup.
We worked with other CAD programs for our architecture + interior design office in Zurich.

We also used 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, V-ray, and had a lot of problems with CAD programs because the files were too big and we had to render them overnight.
Today it is normally available for Sketchup 3D render programs as a plugin and you will be done in 5-10 minutes.

Much later we noticed how Nick Sonder does all of his work with Sketchup.
In architecture we still use CAD programs, but in interior design we present all the projects in Sketchup later with Enscape and today only with D5 Render including video. The best combination.

We have known the forum for a long time, but only now did I find the time and thank you for letting us learn a lot.

Regards, dhikey.
