Hey! I’ve just updated my pc’s hardware without reinstalling the OS and ended up with the broken Sketchup Pro. I think it’s because of the problem with new MAC address, which results the license error about the creation on a different machine. Would it be possible to update the license data with the new address?
What version of SketchUp are you actually using? Your profile says SketchUp Pro but you put “2017 Make” as the license type. 2017 Make isn’t SketchUp Pro.
it’s 2016… needed to choose 2017 as couldn’t find the earlier versions in the account registration form
Try contacting SketchUp Customer Support and see if they will release the MAC address. Technically you aren’t entitled to support this far out but they may be able to help you get it sorted.
Ok, I think I need to give it a try
Thanks
The license makes a note of all of the MAC addresses it can find. If the PC had all of its networking on the motherboard, and you change the motherboard, that might mean all new MAC addresses. If you have any network adapters that you were using at the time the license was first added, it would be worth plugging the adapter back in, and hopefully it has a MAC address the license knows about.
BTW, you had activated the license on two machines, and it is possible to activate on a third machine. Unfortunately, the license server at our end has a problem that prevents you from activating a 2017 or earlier license.
Hi Colin, thanks for the reply. I just tried the only wifi usb adapter I could without success - different MAC. Probably started to use it some time after the license was created.
That’s very sad end of the PC hardware update story
PS. I wonder if the licensing server problem could be somehow omitted until solved (if ever), e.g. how the licensing validation is being checked when user goes offline? Maybe IT team could prepare some workaround for us?
My guess: no, because then everybody with an old version, legal or illegal, could use it. Maybe even Make users could use the Pro version…
I wonder how high a priority this fix is. I seem to remember mentions about this problem from at least a year ago.
