Unhide Idea

I think I might have a good update for Sketchup Pro. When you hide multiple groups and components it can be frustrating to unhide just one of those items. You either have the choice of edit - unhide- all / last option or you can user View-Hidden Geometry. Wouldn’t it be cool if we could go to Edit - Unhide and then under the drop down you see a list of hidden groups or components. I think this would be way more efficient than the current options. Just saying.

You can kindof do that using the Outliner panel (Window > Default Tray > Outliner).

Mac OS doesn’t have the outliner tray, so I was told.

Mac doesn’t have trays (yet - conversion to Qt is in progress). Instead, the equivalent to the Tray panels are called Windows and they float free on the screen when opened rather than being anchored in Trays. From the SketchUp Window menu, click the Outliner item.

Edit: Please fix your forum profile. Lack of usable information there makes it harder for us to help you.

You can get several of the needed items by clicking the Apple icon at the upper left of your screen and choosing “About this Mac” - such as the specific model of MBP, the specific version of macOS, and the graphics hardware. You can get version information about which SketchUp are running by clicking the About SketchUp item in the SketchUp menu.

Well hot dang that does work. But it requires another screen space stealing window to be open, just saying. Thinking my idea would be another good option. Thanks a bunch for showing me that option.

As I noted, there is an Alpha version on SketchUp Labs of porting Mac SketchUp to the Qt library currently used by Windows SketchUp. That library implements trays the same as on Windows. It’s a public alpha that you can request to test by visiting the SketchUp Labs website.

well… less so than with the tray I’d say… trays take more space than individual panels don’t they?

Generally speaking the ‘hide/unhide’ option was designed more as a temporary tool, something to quickly move something out of the way then put it back. It is context sensitive and so can lead to confusion if you hide something while editing a group and then back out of that group. It’s not really designed as a tool for complex visibility sorting.
Tags are designed for more complex hiding and unhiding, and more recently the option has been added to the Outliner to hide and unhide independently of Tags. If I remember correctly the ability to save ‘hidden status’ in scenes is fairly recent.
I’m not sure that adding more complexity to the hide function would be all that beneficial considering the other options available.
Others may disagree, which I’m ok with, just adding my thoughts.

This is how the windows (tray equivalent) look on my Mac.

This one with none opened.

And this one with the Outliner and Entity Info opened.

These windows are all snapped together and their group is also snapped to the top right of the model window.
