trying to import a jpeg file from my desk to sketch up all files show as greyed out why?

How are you trying to import? Are you using File > Open instead of File > Import?
Drag and drop should work as well.

Or are you trying to use a jpeg as a material?

how can I email design to my client

Its grayed out but you can select & import, me too on my MacBookPro, OSX10.8, SU2014PRO.
I don’t know why grayed out, just a bug?
