I haven’t had success with getting models to render in Trimble Connect. I can Share my model from SketchUp Pro 2026 but when I go to Trimble Connect in my browser (Firefox 148 on MacOS 15.7.4) and click on any model in my project list to convert it, I just see an endless spinning icon with “Conversion in Progress”. This happened a few months ago with another project and I just gave up and sent screen shots to my client. Any insights?
I had this on a file recently trying to troubleshoot a similar issue for a client, his 400mb file refused to convert.
after a purge and some cleanup, it worked fine.
how big is your file ? and how much geometry is there in it ?
Ah yes, I did indeed forget to purge unused stuff. File is currently 55MB pre-purge and I do have a couple of poly heavy trees I downloaded from the Warehouse so I’ll eliminate those when back in the office. I’ll clean up the model and try again in a bit, then report back. Thank you!
It would be great to get an update on this! We have tried multiple times to upload larger models to Trimble Connect for Sketchup, so that we can share them with clients. Our file was 236 MB prior to purging, and 221 MB after purging. Still no luck. This is crazy to me. I understand if the system is only designed to share small, preliminary models, but at least make that clear in the marketing materials for this service. The overview page shows teams happily “connecting” and collaborating on what is very clearly a large model with a huge commercial project and other buildings in the background: SketchUp + Trimble Connect | Trimble Marketplace
If this capability isn’t available, then Trimble should be forthright with that - if nothing else to save customers hours and hours trying to make it work. I’d be very happy to find that this is user error, but so far I can’t find anything online that suggests it’s anything other than a server issue or something like that.
Also reaching out to support, I’ll report back if anything comes of it.
Using Sketchup 2026, on a Mac M1 Max with Tahoe 26.3.1
Also checked download and upload speeds for our internet connection during conversion process:
Download Mbps
176.71
Upload Mbps
174.88
New Update (same day, 1 hour later):
“Conversion Failed” in red - no further explanation or suggestions.
2 days later - no word or even acknowledgement of receipt of support ticket from Sketchup or Trimble Support yet.
I managed to get back to this yesterday. I slimmed my model down to 19+MB, uploaded it, clicked 3D conversion and left the browser tab open for 10-15 mins before closing up my laptop and heading home. I assumed the Trimble servers would continue the conversion, but as of this morning, I had to click 3D conversion again and am seeing the spinning progress icon whirl around. I’ll be able to leave the tab open all day to see if indeed I need my browser to be active for this to work. Still, very disappointing.
ETA: I uploaded a model of a simple cube with the word “Test” (extruded) placed on the face of the cube. No textures or anything else. 172KB uploaded at 8:37 PDT. We’ll see what happens.
Update: 3/27/26 17:50PDT the cube conversion failed. I got a response on the https://networkcommunity.trimble.com/ forum about this. The person didn’t address Trimble Connect 3D, but rather suggested I simply use a different tool. I haven’t tried Real Time Collaboration yet, but it seems Trimble Connect 3D is a bust. I won’t be wasting my time with it anymore.
Update: 3/30/26 The Real Time Collaboration feature in Sketchup Pro worked well and was viewable online very quickly. This is the way to go if you want to share models
Based off the information you’ve provided it sounds like SketchUp Real Time Collaboration might be a better workflow for you: https://help.sketchup.com/en/collaborate-sketchup

I also noticed that the browser window apparently needs to be open and the computer ‘awake’ and not in sleep mode in order for the conversion to even move forward - this seems odd, but I don’t really know how cloud-based servers work.
