Are you still using SketchUp 2025? Was SketchUp installed correctly? That is, did you right click on the installer and select Run as administrator when you installed it?
Hopefully @colin will have a chance to look up your Bug Splat report and give you an idea of what’s happening.
I’m running SketchUp 2026 (sorry I forgot to update my profile) and I have been running it successfully for since I installed the 26.1 version at the beginning of the year. I’m not entirely convinced it is the Suforyou plugin that’s the root cause, as I tried a couple of other DXF text import plugins before that one (none of which gave me what I wanted). The first time I got this crash, I did a “repair” reinstall and was able to get in by opening an existing file, but now I’m back to crashing again. I will try another repair.
Thanks
David
When you do the repair make sure you right click on the installer, select Run as administrator, and then the Repair option.
Please update your profile while you’re thinking about it, too.
Re-downloaded the installer, ran as administrator, selected repair, all went well until I tried to run SketchUp, new crash report sent. Now going to try deleting template directory, then doing a full uninstall/reinstall (in admin mode).
P.S. Remind me where I update my profile. I can find it, I just don’t see how to edit it.
Thanks,
David
Instead of deleting the Template directory delete login_session.dat and see what you get.
Click on your avatar image at the top right of the screen. Then click on the person icon, Preferences, and Profile. Update the info and scroll to the bottom to save.
If you think that installing the extension caused the issue disable it.
Open your Plugins folder
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2026\SketchUp\Plugins
If a hidden folder so you might need to access it through the full file path or change your Windows Explorer settings to show hidden files…
and find the .RB file named s4u_importdxf and remove it [or rename its filetype suffix to .RB! so SketchUp won’t try to load it and crash.
Restart SketchUp and see if it’s any better…
Thanks to all. I did a full uninstall/reinstall and before I reinstalled I deleted the possible offending plugins from the plugin folder. That seems to have got me back in action and armed with a few less-drastic-than-a-full-reinstall repair tips, should it happen again.
Cheers,
David
OK, it happened again. This time, armed with your suggestions, I first deleted the login_session.dat file, that made no difference. Then I deleted the s4u_importdxf folder from the plugins directory and when I re ran SketchUp got the “some plugins failed to load” message at which point I “uninstalled” that plugin and was able to run SketchUp.
After I had re-installed previously, I was able to install a trial version of the s4u importdxf plugin and use it successfully to import a DXF with labels (which is the feature I wanted). When I closed that file I did get a bugsplat but that maybe unrelated as the file saved OK. I can still re-load that file (the imported DXF) without issue.
I hope this is just a bug in the importdxf plugin (maybe an incompatibility with the 26.1 version??) because I’d really like to be able to use this plugin permanently, it does exactly what I want (in fact, it does what SketchUp should do natively with its DXF import, but that’s a different story).
Thanks again for all the really quick assistance on this!
Cheers,
David
