Tool Icons have been replaced with square blue smilies

All of the tool icons have been replaced with square blue smilies.
SketchUp has been installed on this laptop for a long time and has worked fine. Just recently the tool icons were replaced with identical square smilies. The app does seem to be working but without the tool icons, it’s difficult to navigate. How did I manage to mess this up… how do I fix?

Souunds like for whatever reason, the icon files aren’t accessible. Have you tried a cold reboot on the computer and restarting SketchUp? If that doesn’t take care of it, you could try repairing the installation. Right click on the downloaded installer file, choose Run as administrator. When the options are presented, select Repair.
