Thonet bentwood

I did this model of a Thonet bentwood armchair not too long ago. Modeling the arm was reasonably easy; I created a path for Follow Me along the slanted top and side of a rectangle, then erased all the edges I didn’t need. For the rear leg, I had to intersect two shapes to get a pleasing line that curved in two planes. I used Chris Fullmer’s Shape Bender plugin to shape the curved and tapered front legs.

Nice work, David.

A good application of tools, too.

Thank you, sir. You taught me well.
The SketchUp model went up in the 3D Warehouse on October 5; it’s now been downloaded more than 425 times and liked 6 times.
