The Feature Requests category

Firstly, I want to say how much I enjoy using Sketchup, coming back to using a CAD package after being away for over 23 years. Its intuitive and easy to use interface is great.

Now to my feature request.

I would love to be able to use Sketchup with Blender with a more seamless workflow by having an option to import/export native Blender format files directly.

This would allow users of Sketchup to take advantage of Blenders animation and rendering capabilities even more so now that chaos group (creators of VRay) have released a beta version of their rendering software to work with Blender.

This would open up a whole new area for Sketchup users.

Please note: - Blender 3.xx has Sketchup plugin that only works on Windows Pc, unfortunately its not compatible with the latest versions of Sketchup.

I would like to propose that a rating and review section be added to tthe Extension Warehouse… like every other app store. I believe this would not only provide valuable information for SU users considering adding an extension but may be a good source of metrics for informing extension developers how well their app is performing.

Additionally, I would request that Trimble require extensions in the Extension Warehouse to only be downloaded and installed via the Extension Warehouse as opposed to being redirected to an developer’s website via the “Visit Extension Site” button.

I request this after having recently used the Visit Extension Site button which redirected me to the extension developer’s website in my browser to download the .rbz file. Not only did the developer’s site seem far less trustworthy than the Extension Warehouse (even my computer was concerned enough to ask me, “Are you sure you want to download this file?”), but it is simply easier to install extensions through the Warehouse. Maybe it’s just me but I prefer that “walled garden” approach to app/plugin curation.

I use CAD to build things. Being able to work efficiently is essential to me, so that I can deliver results for my customers at the lowest possible price. While SketchUp is a dream come true (I started with AutoCAD in 89), there are deficiencies that make things take longer than they should. So here is my current list of improvements I’m looking for:

Right Click an object to access and edit all properties!!!

This one is huge, and can really speed up modeling. When any object or entity is right clicked, all of the attributes should be displayed, and should be able to be edited. For instance, if a line is right-clicked, the color of the line should be displayed, and be able to be changed. Compare that with changing the color of a line currently, or editing the properties of a dimension.

All of the attributes of an entity, or object, that can be edited, should be easy to edit.

Ortho mode for Line Drawing

Constraining lines to be drawn in X, Y, or Z should be the default. A user should not have to remember to hit a key to constrain line drawing.

Move important Layout features into Pro, and get rid of Layout.

Switching back and forth between two separate programs within the same application makes no sense whatsoever. Since I have been using SketchUp, I’ve heard endless complaints about Layout. There’s simply no sensible reason for it.

For dimensions, add "baseline dimensioning, and add angle dimensioning.

Baseline dimensioning is essential for contractors when doing framing layout. Stepping measurements is a forbidden practice for professional builders.

Not being able to dimension angles is ridiculous.

Rounded, Chamfered, and Beveled edges for objects

Users should be able to specify all parameters, and should be able to create fillets.

Make zooming in and out consistent, in contrast to having cursor on an object when zooming in or out.

This is, without question, one of the most irritating, and time wasting defects in Sketchup. If your cursor is not on a specific object, the zooming in or out is random, and causes unnecessary delay when modeling.

Cutting openings in layered solids, such as walls with siding and paneling.

This should be standared.

Slicing solids.

There should be a slicing tool to slice up solids, and the sliced solids should remain as separate solids, not raw geometry.

Polyline.

It is standard in vector drafting software to have a polyline option. The user should be able to add nodes, and be able to convert the polyline to a curve.

Bezier Curve.

A Bezier curve tool is standard in vector drafting software

OSNAP needs substantial improvement. Look at AutoCAD OSNAP options.

A user should be able to specify exactly what nodes should be snapped to, and when any of the specified nodes is selected, it should be prominently indicated, without being hidden by the cursor, and that includes finding the

I’ve been using pro since the mid 2000’s, here are some features I’d like to see:
Native fillet function (3D)
Ability to do small radius circles and radii: currently, I have to scale me models 10x, build them, then shrink them to 1/10.
Bring back the ‘save as’ to down save to older versions.
More varied woodgrain pochette in patterns (black and white)
Bring back the print preview with all the features.

Dude, the scale should have a function to alternate the axes like alt
like move you click alt and it alternates the points
corners, middles, ends, center

yes.it concerns modeling from point clouds..i hope not to hurt “scan essentials” users but this plugin cannot be compared to “trimble scan explorer” whith must have been developped by a genius…TSE is exactly what we need when you want to create a 3D model and not be puzzled by a huge amount of points one above the other and especillay when you have not been on the site and somebody has made the scans for you. I could write a book to praise the invention of this plugin. There must be many good reason for those who commercialized TRIMBLE products but when you have such a great plugin not commercialize it also as an alterative to SCAN essentials. I could demonstrate its use to TRIMBLE developpers if they want. I can boast of been on of the oldest user of SKETCHUP and I know what I am telling..best regards
