Hi, I really want to be able to create a model with tapered sides but where the corners are rounded over but the round over does not go around all of the edges, just up the four tapered edges… like a corned beef can - the base is larger than the top. Follow me seems to want to round everything or nothing!
You could also use Push/Pull to extrude the main part of the can–the rectangle with rounded corners–and use the Scale tool on the top face to create the taper. Then switch to Follow Me for the seams top and bottom. But Dave’s way is faster.
Apologies, I have been, perhaps a bit simplistic, the shape I am trying to rounder had different angles on one side than it does on the other. In one of the photos you can see the three corners that I hoped to round off by creating surfaces from end to end, next to each other around the corner, but I could not seem to achieve a surface, sketchup just wouldn’t fill the box in the back ground you can see the other matching parts, and I have included another of angle so you can see how it looks from a different angle.
This leg is entirely different. Generally it is better to ask about your specific model than about something that is entirely unrelated. Follow Me would not be appropriate here. There are a number of ways to do this. I would use FredoCorner or Fredo6’s Round Corner for this particular job.
It can be done with native tools but an extension is considerably faster.
Here’s with native tools. Rectangle with rounded corners, Push/Pull for height, Move with Autofold to move the top surface over, Move to move just the bottom edge and radii over.
Hi, I was expecting to model it in two halves, so essentially the can example would work as I would do two ‘cans’ each with the two different face angles and chop them vertically, turn one of them over, and put them together, that way I could use the native tools, at least, that is what I had hoped. (I’ve had sketch up three days and didn’t want to buy more stuff for it!!!) I will give your native suggestion a go, thanks!
FredCorner does have a small license fee but RoundCorner is available for free. You should be able to manage with the native tools, though. I guess it’s your time or your money. Good to learn what the native tools can do, though.
@DaveR You are a legend, thanks so much for your guidance. Here they all are, in place. They look chunky but they are supposed to, it is a cabinet for my daughter’s toys and no one must look at it and suggest it is too flimsy! Thanks, again, for your help. All with native tools!
