I’m trying to add dashed lines to a model, I’ve put all the lines that need to be dashed into a component and tagged it with a dashed line but it’s still showing up as unbroken. The model is in the details style.
Can you share the .skp file so we can see what you are working with?
I’m gonna predict…
the style you’re using has its line style with dashed lines turned off. ![]()
It is but Dashes are enabled so it must be something else.
Again, share the SketchUp file so we can see exactly what you are working with.
You have given the component the “dashes supposedly” tag but you’ve tagged the edges inside with other tags that you’ve set to show as solid.
All edges and faces in SketchUp should be created AND remain untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags. I fixed the incorrect tag usage in your model.
And then the dashes appear as expected for the component.

Question: why are you doing 2D drawings in a 3D modeling application?
Thank you!
answer: I have no idea what I’m doing:)
You’re welcome.
Maybe start with the tutorials at learn.sketchup.com
FWIW, I think you’ll find it ends up being easier work with a 3D model of the project and you’ll be less likely to induce errors if edits are required. You can create all of the required plan and elevation views of a single 3D model. Consider also what you’d have to do if you have a change request. Think about how many places you would need to make adjustments if the length of the assembly were to change. In a 3D model you would do that in one place and all of the views would update as needed.
