Subtract tool works incorrectly

Hi everyone,
i have issues using the subtract tool from solid tools: when i try to subtract a solid from another one the result is completely wrong

How can i fix this?

here is the file i’m working on

prova.skp (2.2 MB)

Your scale is too small for the kind of very tiny edges and faces your operation is creating, they are below SketchUps resolution for merging nodes into one point. Select both objects and scale up by x100 then try again. Scale back down when you have completed the subtraction.

thank you very much, it works!

I’m here again with the same issue.
This time i scaled the model 10000x but the issue persist

here is the file

disegno lampada MEDIA.skp (6.9 MB)

one of them is not a solid, so substract will not work.

(edited) none of them

This happens after i try to subtract it, if you take a look in the firt screeshot i posted, both of them are solid.
After the failing subtraction i turn back with crtl Z and they became simply groups, not solid

Supply the file with both objects solid.

I think that you may have scaled the model so large that SketchUp is having trouble with the distance from the origin.

yeah, i think it too, i tried with a 100x scale and it worked

The blob shape isn’t solid in that one, either, due to the hole on the back side.

What is your ultimate goal for this model?

yeah sorry i’ve seen it after i posted it, it’s always an imperfection that appears after the subtraction attempt

I think that blob shape (sorry I dont’ know what to call it) could be created in a better way with many fewer edges and faces. That would prevent the bad geometry.

yeah you are right, unfortunatly i received this files from another person that asked my help. Anyway i think that slbaumgartner is right. After the firts attempts i tried scaling the model at 100x and it worked.

This is the final result

thanks to everyone for the support!

Sometimes it’s easier to rebuild at least part of the model than it is to struggle with poorly created geometry. I did that here and Trim worked just fine.
