I’ve always been confused with where, the Sketchup program files are installed by default, or automatically. On my Windows (10) machine, the C: drive has sub-folders “Program files” and Program files (x86)". From my Win 95 days I know “x86” refers to an Intel chipset or, the processor. It was one of Intels upgrades that changed the Windows file system, but both may still be used (Fat 32, (and 64?) and NTFS or New Tech File System, that showed up mid '90’s.

Then there is a Sketchup subfolder by itself, in alphabetical order on the C: drive. By default, Sketchup and most of it’s subfolders install in the Program files folder and in the C:/Sketchup folder. Component file, Export file, Watermarks, all those write themselves to both places, depending and that’s where trouble starts. When I download a component from 3D warehouse, and save it I often can’t find it until I stumble on it. When I build a component and try to “save as” I can put it in either components folder. Which is chaos quickly.
From the root C: Where is Sketchup supposed to install itself?

You are on the right track. These folder names appear on a computer that runs a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.
Applications that are 64-bit are installed into the Program Files folder. 32-bit applications or older (there used to be even 16-bit ones) go into the Program Files (x86) folder.

Your computer can run either a 64-or 32-bit version of SketchUp, and the folder where it is installed by default goes as said above.

Thank you for the ’ Programsx86 ’ folder being the 32 bit (older) programs folder, Annsi. That was bothering me for over a year.
