Style issues: Section Fill disappearing, and Styles not saving

Sketchup Pro 2026 on Mac. Style issues:

1/ Using ‘Tech Pen Endpoints,’ my section fill disappears in every scene the minute I make any changes. If I modify and update the style, section fill comes back, and sometimes I can even make it stay, but the minute I change scenes, it’s gone again. Section fill IS there in the same scenes in Layout, so at least it’s rendering properly. But why won’t it display in Sketchup? Don’t have the same issue with other styles.

2/ Problems saving and updating Styles - I can save them to various folders, but they don’t show up till I restart, seemingly multiple times. Even though the Finder sees them fine, they don’t show up in the Select dialog. When I edit and update and save a Style, it reverts back to the old version when I re-click on it. Saves OK as part of a Scene.

3/ Bonus: hidden object refused to disappear in Section view. It’s not visible in ISO. No matter what I tried. Searched through all available web info I could find. Finally had to delete it. Grrr.

EDIT: Note, I am on a loaded M1 Mac Studio M1 w/ Studio Display running latest MacOS and paid Sketchup Pro. Just haven’t updated my profile yet.

Thx!

Can you share the file? It could be a problem with the graphics engine and your old Intel gpu on Mac.

Are you using a cra cked software?, your profile says you’re using the free web version but mentioned Layout which is available just for SketchUp pro.

RE graphics engine ...

ADD BACKSTORY: This comment applied to the OP’s old forum profile.

The new graphics engine is unsupported on Intel Iris Pro graphics.
You should switch to the classic OpenGL engine via the Preferences > Graphics panel.

Hi guys, I am on a loaded M1 Mac Studio M1 w/ Studio Display running latest MacOS and paid Sketchup Pro. Haven’t updated my profile yet, but should not be a hardware issue. Thx.

Share the .skp file so we can see what you’ve got.

It’s important to keep your forum profile current since that information can be useful in diagnosing problems you might be having.

Updated my profile. Unfortunately, SKP file is 17.8 mb, limit is 16. Still getting same errors.

Post to a file sharing service and share a public link here.

I managed to recreate the ‘disappearing section fill’ problem with a smaller version of the file. When I click on the Style logo upper left in the Styles window, section fill reappears, but the minute I update a scene or change anything, it disappears again. Jumping between scenes also deletes the section fill. Strangely, it shows up in the same scenes in Layout. So there is something happening within Sketchup in the redraw of SF in the Scenes. Here is the file:

The issues appear to be from using that particular ‘Style’ (Tech Pen Endpoints).
Therefore why use it, it’s nothing special or amazing. Only creating problems for you.
Create your own by basing it off Sketchups native styles.

The issue seems to be with the new graphics engine and the style you are using.

If I switch the graphics engine to the classic it seems to work:

Can you re-create the style with the standard settings? Or can you switch to the classic engine? Or just live with it since it seems to be working in LayOut?

There must be some issue rendering those classic style builder type lines with the new engine.

Maybe @Colin can get someone from the Mac team to take a look at this.

Thanks guys. I have been making my own styles, and figured out how to save them ‘In Model.’ There’s still an issue somewhere, but this is a fine workaround.

And I’m still confused by stubborn hidden objects in Section views that remain visible. But will keep on deleting them til I figure out what’s up with that. Onward!

Are you hiding the objects, or are you putting them on tags (preferred method), then turning the tag visibility off?

Share a model with the section view / hidden object issue. I use this technique all the time. 95% I control with tags, but occasionally I have a need to hide something in a specific view.

Here is how you save to a collection:

Yes, I generally hide stuff by tags. I think I have 20 or 30 tags in this model that I turn on or off to reveal/conceal aspects, and yes that’s the preferred way. But what’s the point of having a ‘Hide’ feature that doesn’t work in all the Scenes? Seems like there is a redraw issue within Sketchup ‘26, at least on the Mac side, that doesn’t show features properly, like Section Cuts, or Styles, or Hidden Objects.

I reduced your model to a 167k version that still shows the problem.

I couldn’t find an existing known issue, so I will write up a bug report about it.

The problem only started with SketchUp 2026.

It is scene dependent. If you hide something in one scene it will only be hidden there. AFAIK hide is / was designed to be temporary and not a global solution.

Yes, there is a bug regarding that particular style and section cuts that you were using as noted by @colin

Unless I misunderstand your ‘hidden objects’ issue - I believe that is user error.

Post a file with the hidden object issue and a reply with what scenes it is supposed to be hidden in…

Scenes are snapshots. They (can) remember: camera position, style, active section cut(s), shadow settings, tag viability, objects which are hidden, etc etc.

If I draw new geometry it is visible in all scenes until I control visibility with tags. In some cases it might make sense to hide something in a scene - (but be aware of the potential issues) - as an example - if I have a section cut through a great room I may not want to see the sofa being cut - so I will often hide that object in that particular scene, then update that scene.

If you find yourself needing to hide things globally in many of your models - setup a template with all the usual tags you use and then add a few that you can use for guides, cutting geometry, references, etc etc. If you are smart about it you can have scene and section cuts also setup and if you are really smart about it (depending on what you typically model) you can have a Layout template keyed to the SketchUp template to save you time…
