Hi, sorry to bother you, I did look at some of the suggestions but didn’t see this. I have a teacher interested in SketchUp but I am confused about your under 13 policies and we’re not allowed to open MarketPlace to under 18s without clarifying. Can you help please with what you mean by they only may submit models and if our students connect to you with their emails how personal data (i.e. names, etc.) isn’t transferred? I’m probably being dense, but need to ask. Thanks!
@CaseyG might be able to answer your question, I pinged him for you…
Hi @wbarlow, thanks for the post. I’ll do my best to clarify what I can although please keep in mind that while I do work for the SketchUp team I am not a lawyer nor am I a developer who specializes in this sort of thing.
We don’t have the ability to see student data as we never handle it on our end. Any student data is saved to their Google or Microsoft account. We don’t have access to usernames or passwords either as the login process is also handled by the Google or Microsoft environment that the app is deployed in.
Simply put, we have no idea who a student using SketchUp for Schools is and have no info about them. We also have no idea what they make with the app. Hopefully that answers your questions but if I missed anything, please feel free to post again and clarify what I missed so I can get you an answer.
Thank you! The thing is that if a student connects their account to you, then they are sharing information - their name, email, sometimes (depending on what you ask for) contacts, drive, etc. Most companies have a (fairly) clear under 13 policy, but I’m just not sure what yours us by reading it. We’re in California and have to be very clear about what we’re doing, i.e. to connect to you do we have to get parental permission for under 13? Is there someone I can ask so I make sure we’re following the laws and “rules” please?
Thanks again!
Our official terms of service can be found here: SketchUp For Schools TOS | SketchUp | SketchUp
Again, we do not handle any student data at all. All of the login process is handled by Google or Microsoft depending on your operating environment. The app saves data to the drive but only data that the user creates and we don’t have access to that data at all. It is all handled by either Google or Microsoft. We do not have access to any information on who is using SketchUp or what they are doing with it.
If there is a specific part of the terms of service that you need some help with I am happy to ask our legal team for clarification.
Thank you, appreciate your time.
