Is there a way to toggle off sticky modifiers for tools on 2024? I have recently upgraded from an older version and the toggle modifiers are massively throwing me, especially when swapping from copy/move to eraser and it ends up smoothing lines instead of erasing making very messy geometry that is very hard to find!
I have found a lot of other people online with similar problems from a few years ago but there does not seem to be any solutions? Surely if this is something that has been flagged up that a lot of people struggle with, a toggle should have been implemented at some point over the last few years?
The issue I have been having is the not knowing which version of a tool I have selected at any time. The little red or blue (or blue dashed) line underneath is so fine, especially when hovering over your model, that it really is not instinctive what the result will be.
As someone who has just upgraded from an older perpetual version, it does strike me as odd that when moving to a subscription model that SketchUp has not put in basic features like this in the years since people have mentioned it. Personally I have found quite a few of the changes to be noticeable downgrades in usability, and no sign of developers listening to any feedback.
The change from holding the modifier to a tap of the key was made several years ago. It does take a bit to get used to, it also expands the options of the use of the key.
You are correct, the copy modifier for the move tool stayed on until used, but once copied it would revert back.
The real issue for me has been the erase tool, where I end up hiding or softening lines when I think I am erasing them. It isn’t immediately obvious that you’ve done this and makes it very hard to find the bad geometry later in modelling.
It is the sort of thing that can maybe be corrected in my workflow over time, but really why has an obstacle like this been put in the way in the first place, especially when having a toggle between the two styles would have been very simple?
