When adding text to a layout document, I frequently use ALT-0188, ALT-0189 and ALT-0190 for ¼ ½ and ¾. Layout has an issue where it always puts the special character in twice. It doesnt’ seem to matter which font I’m using. The exact behavior is, I enter ALT-0189, and a ½ character is placed, and then the next key I hit a second copy is also placed.
Is there a fix for this? Layout seems to be the only place this happens for me.
Sure, but running multiple versions isn’t something I want to have to do. I understand this isn’t a supported version, but Id still be interested in a workaround for this issue. I’ve gotten use to deleting the doubles but it would be nice not to have to.
What do you mean by that? Is your CNC software reading your SKP files directly or are you using an export extension that isn’t compatible with newer versions than 2022?
The SketchUp (SKP) file format is the same for all versions since 2021 so if the CNC understands SKP there should be no compatibility problem.
Vcarve imports Sketchup 2019 files natively but will not import newer versions. We use 2022 because it allows us to save files in Sketchup 2019 format. I haven’t tried 2025 yet but 2023 did not allow you to save SketchUp files as an older version like 2022 did and at that point I stopped upgrading to make sure everything worked for our CNC setup.
It would be worth testing to see if that still happens in a more recent version, then look into saving backwards. Unfortunately, if that IS an issue in 2022, there is not way to get a change made to an older version, so there is really not a way to “fix” that problem.
Also, if you have a contact at Vcarve, or can even reach out as a paying customer, it may be a good idea to have them look into the new SKP file version!
