Somehow my imported sketchup models keep facing the camera?

I guess i am doing something wrong or missed a setting, but why do my imported sketchup models keep facing the camera?

After remodelling very heavy revit models (went from 100MB to 100kb) i saved them seperately and wanted to combine them into another model.
But somehow those imported models keep facing the camera , even tho i have not set this option, or i cant find how to disable this option

In the gif below you see me importing them models and trying to orient them the right way, but since they automatically face the camera, its a p.i.t.a. (not the shoarma bread!) and have to explode each imported model and regroup them to remove that face camera thingy before i can rotate them in the right direction.

For those who want to test my files, i’ve placed a zip below in which i replaced the buildings with the letters A, B and C which i want to combine in the COMBI file.
TEMP.ZIP (315.7 KB)

Original models where made with SUP22, but the issue happens in SUP22 and in SUP25

In case someone knows how to solve this issue, please let me know how to avoid this to happen, thanks in advance!

When I import one of the files you posted, select it from the In Model tab of the Component Browser, and select the Edit tab, I see that, indeed, the “Always face camera” box is checked.

Wow thanks but also, how weird since i just saved the file and never set the face camera option. But thanks for the fast reply, i’ll be able to fix it … tomorow

PS
Any clue how this could have been prevented when trying to import another model?
Do know this option when creating groups and/or components, never knew this could happen when saving a new file to import it into another. Something i did for ages without this ever happening

Sorry to say, but I had to remove the solution because it turned out not to be the solution.

Somehow, after removing the face camera feature and reloading the component with the same file, it activated the face camera option each time, every time, and lost its orientation and have to rotate move etc the model to its original location, which is a p.i.t.a. (still not the shoarma bread).

Seems to be happening after installing SUP2025, because i had never had this issue before when using SUP22

After geo locating models and importing those, it does not happen, but it is becomming a hassle to keep switching, and sometimes even loggin in multiple times, from SUp22 to SUP2025 and back again, just to geo locate, export, import, and edit the simpelest models

The “Always face camera” option has been set when you created the component so reloading it will bring it always back. When you make components, check that the box is blank

Like i said before, i did not set the face camera option. i only use that for 2d-scaleme figurs.

So i create a new file in SUP22, import cad files, model a simplified version of the cad file, remove the cad file, purge unused, save the file, open a new file in SUP2025, geo locate it, save the file, open the file in SUP22, import the previous file as a component, and face camera is active on import, have not found how to deactivate this option during import.

Do not understand why this is set automatically somehow, never happend in the years before …

The only thing my old brain suggests is that an extension is doing that. I just tried to repeat your workflow in SketchUp 2025.0.575 and the model I import stays put.

Hmm, thanks for the effort taken.

You may have used a component (which have been saved as from other model with this ‘Always face camera’ behaviour) as a template.
Be aware that the model itself can have this ‘Always face camera’ behaviour, wich you can see/set in a Model Info:

Bit late to this, but just to confirm what @dezmo said.
I opened your B model and sure enough…

I think this was the/my problem.

At least i’m not to old to learn new things, never knew this setting was in the model info as well :face_with_peeking_eye:

Will check my files and remove this feature!

Thanks a bundle Dezmo! :folded_hands:
