Solidworks files

I am new to Sketchup after using Solidworks for many years Just wondering is there a way to convert my Solidworks files over to Sketchup?

You’re using the free web version of SketchUp?

yes it is

OK. I moved your thread to the correct category.

Look at the Import file types that are available. Export one of those from Solidworks and you can import it into SketchUp. There is a trial period for SketchUp Go which would give you more options until the trial period expires.

I presume you are using it as a hobbyist? If you purchase a Go subscription you can import .stl and a few different vector file types.

Thanks, Yes, I am a retired engineer now working as a woodworker.

I just tried to import one of my files from SolidWorks, but none of Solidworks files are listed as being supported.

It’s very limited in the free version. Basically just raster files like .png and .jpg. You need to upgrade to Shop and then you can import .stl, .dxf, and .dwg files. This shows the supported file types with SketchUp Go.

If you upgrade to SketchUp for Desktop (Pro or Studio) you can import many other file types. There are extensions that will import even more file types.

You’ll find it difficult to import native Solidworks files into most software.

Like Dave has said, you’d need to open Solidworks and export your files to STL or similar.

But, Solidworks do offer a Hobbyist version for 48 dollars a year.

So if you’ve no longer got access to Solidworks but still have your files, that might be a relatively cheap option.

Thanks, I was able to download and install the Makers app. I do have access to all my SW files and for $48 dollars, it real deal thanks!!
