Importing Solid Works Files

I need to know the correct process to import Solid Works files into SketchUp 2016.

  • What format do the Solid Works files need to be in to import a 3D image correctly, not 2D
  • What file type imports best into SketchUp? (.STL, .STEP, .DWG, etc.)

Any information would be great!

STL works too, with a free plugin from the Sketchup developers. DWG might produce cleaner results, STL is triangulated.
