Sleepless Night

Nice render.

It’s almost like there is a burnished effect to the metal material, in the saddle of the hook from “use.”

What is your render software, Dave?

Thanks.

Vray for rendering.

Here’s a little Louis XIII period side table.

On to another machine. This is a machinist’s model of a water powered engine. It runs off high pressure water (I don’t know how high). For scale this model has a flywheel that is 157 mm dia. The outlet for the wall on the left end is 22 mm dia.

Of course, as usual, all components are solids.

Dave, I love your stuff. I’ve recently got into trying to model Muncaster engines after @TheOnlyAaron 's live grasshopper stream and want to know if you fully model the innards - steam pathways, oil gantries etc or just the outsides?

Thanks. I model all of the internal stuff including steam passages.

I thought as much. Other than solid/bool tools do you use any other extensions to do so?

I don’t use the native Solid Tools at all. I use Eneroth Solid Tools and Bool Tools 2. Other extensions I commonly use are Eneroth Auto Weld and sometimes the Solid Inspectors (although I find I rarely need them to make solid components) and I make good use of Tangent Tools from TIG for connecting linkages and other things.

That’s something I take for granted in PowerCADD and find missing in SU. I’ll have to add that to my toolbox.

A few more parts completed.

And here’s a screen grab of the original artwork.

Never ceased to be amazed at your mechanical marvels :+1:

Aw, shucks! Thank you, my friend.

A few studs and hex nuts left but I think it’s close enough.

Here’s an interesting water valve of a type I’ve never seen before.

It beat going out to the stores today.

Strange thing! I can’t quite suss out how it works. It looks like the spring would keep it closed.

The vale is opened by raising the rack which has a ring around the nested bronze pieces. The spring presses those bronze pieces against the bronze seats on either side. The spring compensates for wear over time.

Here’s the valve partially opened.

Ah! The section cut caused me to miss that the thing at the end of the rack had a ring around the valve core. Nice!

I debated with myself about sectioning the rack with the ring but I wanted to show the spring and didn’t see a great alternative.

That is a beautiful drawing - how do you do the animation?
