Hi. SketchUp viewer keeps crashing/ force closing whenever I try to open large files (over 1GB). I am using a 2021 M1 iPad Pro, 8gb RAM, 128gb. Any suggestions or work around please?
Files that size are morbidly obese. Sounds like you need to do some cleanup and proper model management.
Your profile says you are using Free Plan of SketchUp 2018. Does that mean you are using a cracked version?
No. I am using the SketchUp app downloaded from Apple App Store
The project site is huge. It consists of architectural buildings and landscape. The site area is at least 5 hectares, unfortunately
Fix your forum profile with the right information then.
Still sounds like the file is just too large for the viewer and your hardware.
You’re right. It’s not the SketchUp viewer. I’ve mixed them up. Sorry for wrong info
Thank you for the advice. Really appreciate it
Hi @OB1 thanks for the post. If your file is that big, I am not surprised that you are seeing issues with it. If you can get the file to open on a more powerful device, that would be a good place to start so you can run a cleanup script or manually clean things up a bit.
Additionally, I am happy to take a look if you would like and see if there is anything I can do to help but that would require you to share the file with me and I know that sometimes that is not possible.
Finally, as a general note, 200MB is considered a large file so something that is 5x bigger is going to cause issues. If you truly need all the details you have added, consider breaking apart the file into smaller sections that you can work on.
Hi @CaseyG! Thank you very much for your advice and suggestions. Very helpful. Yes, I have come to realise that the file that I am trying to open is extremely large for my device.
Thanks again and have a good day!
