Why is it that nearly every time SketchUp performs an update (even a minor 25.0.xxx to 25.0.yyy one) EVERYTHING gets reset? I lose all loaded Extensions. All the toolbars are reset. All the options are reset. EVERYTHING! It takes me 15 minutes (at least) to put everything back the way it was. Eventually I learned to keep screenshots of the setting, extensions, toolbar looks, etc., to make it easier, otherwise I’d be pulling out my hair. There has to be a way of exporting/saving all settings prior to the update, then importing/restoring them afterwards. This should be built into SketchUp - it needs to work smarter so that I don’t have to work harder every time there is an update. Frankly, it makes me want to STOP updating!
This sounds suspiciously like there is something wrong with your installation of SketchUp. I’d suggest you get the SketchUp installer (download again if you can’t find it), run it by right-click Run as Administrator (not the same as being logged on as Administrator) and choosing Repair from the options. See if that helps next time.
Installing a minor version update should never affect your settings and should pick up all of your extensions because it touches only the executable, none of the “helper” files. And for several versions now, settings have been copied across during a major version update. Exceptions were the extensions, though in 2025 there is a mechanism to attempt to copy them as well. It is limited to ones from the Extension Warehouse because SketchUp has no insight or access to how other sources may install their extensions.
Thank you. I will try that next time. I’ve only been running version 25 for a few months (when I bought a new computer and did a fresh SketchUp install) and this is the first update I’ve done. Prior versions on the old computer seemed to have this problem sporadically.
