SketchUp Style tip - Hide your edges!

Hey!

Wanted to show a quick tutorial on how to hide object edges in the newest versions of SketchUp and a few tips to do it faster, without using any extensions, like Hide All Edges from Fredo.
This style tip works great for:

  • Improving readability of 3D Text. (I Wish this was a standart checkbox in the tool or Entity Info);
  • Reducing visual noise of individual SketchUp models;
  • Improving SketchUp file performance (less edges visible= better performance).

When creating city scale models, I usually only leave edges visible for the building I’m working on. Makes a huge difference in performance.

To make shortcuts for Deselect Faces and the propper Hide command - you need to select some geometry first. Otherwise they do not show up in the Shortcuts menu.

Deselect Faces is a recent command that is not available in older SketchUp versions.

For text clean up in older versions you can:

  1. Select a face and chose Select all with Same Material
  2. Invert Selection;
  3. Hide all edges
