is there a shortcut to view or hide edges

You could use Fredo6’s Hide All Edges and set a keyboard shortcut for it.

To view (or hide) as in display / (not display) edges you could set up a shortcut key via:
menu Window > Preferences > Shortcut > select View/Edge Style/Edges >Add Shortcut and Assign

thanx both. It seems that the one within ketchup itself in the preferences menu works simple and easy.
