I have goelocated my model, set UTC to 0 as suggested is the same as GMT, still shadows are in the incorrect places for the time of day. im very confused! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
It would help if you share your SketchUp model so we can see exactly what you have set up.
How far off are the shadows? Keep in mind SketchUp doesn’t automatically account for the one hour change to Daylight Savings Time (Summer time). you have to shift the GMT offset accordingly.

You should use the same time zone where your modei is geolocated, unless it is not on the Greenwich meridian. Note too that the time slider ignores daylight saving time.
The issue was solved. The model was rotated 180° from the correct orientation.
