SketchUp Pro 2023 - Freezing

I have been a SU user for 10 years now and have never quite found a way to have it run smoothly and I would be grateful for any advice before I make major changes to my setup to improve my productivity.

I am experiencing consistent freezing when manipulating (picking up and moving objects) my drawings and it is very frustrating. This is worse as the file size increases but also occurs on relatively small file sizes (i.e. 20 MB).

I always keep my drawings clean (i.e. purge unused & fix problems)>

My system spec is;

Dell Precision 7540
Intel(R) Core™ i7-9850H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
64 GB RAM
1 TB SSD
NVIDIA Quadro T2000

I am very close to either moving to another design package / different machine (i.e.high spec Apple machine).

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve performance.

Kind regards,

Chris

It would be interesting to see an example SketchUp file that exhibits this freezing.

Are you saving your files to an internal drive or to a cloud or external drive?

FWIW, I’m not seeing any freezing in SU2023 with any of my models, even in very large ones. I think performance in SU23 has been better for me than in previous versions.

This may or may not have anything to do with it but last night I was reading an article about automatic encryption/decryption with Windows 11. The author of the article indicated that in tests this encryption service reduced read/write speed to/from internal drives by upwards of 45%. Seems like that could cause significant delays no matter what application.

Thanks DaveR, appreciate you taking the time to review & reply.

I am unable to share the file due to NDA.

I am saving the file to my internal drive and it is backed up to a cloud.

I also notice the freezing when using Layout.
I recently updated my version of SU2023. It may have improved things but too early to tell.

It is a long running issue for me with SU over the yrs and I have endeavored to improve my productivity with more powerful machines - it would be interesting to know what computer set up you have - as I understand, GPU is not utilised by SU so it is largely a function of CPU power.

Thanks,

Chris
