Hi everyone,
I’m frustrated and desperate! What happened? Back in 2017, I was still in high school and used my savings to buy a student license for SketchUp Pro from Softtech (at the time, a paid standalone program). Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to learn it. Now, as a university student, I need my SketchUp Pro version for my master’s thesis, but I can’t start it because the link to enter the license key has been taken offline. Every attempt to start the program fails because of this.
SketchUp 2017 was a standalone purchase, not a subscription. It belongs to me, yet the manufacturer is blocking my access.
I just want my contractually agreed right to use the program and kindly ask for help.
Yours, Jack
I can’t answer your issue directly re: why your license isn’t working…but as a higher ed student, you are entitled to a ‘student priced (55 usd)’ version of the latest and greatest v2024. I know I’d be upset paying twice for something but consider v2017 is nearly 8 years old now and there are some really great features that have come out during that time…not to mention access to the web-based services like Add Location, 3DW, Extension Warehouse, Reports, etc that are no longer supported in older versions.
Back then students had a deal where they could get a 1 year ‘Classic’ license. It was $50, and would expire after that year. If you still had an EDU email address you would then renew the license.
As it happens, entering a license into 2017 is currently broken anyway, so if you had an updated license you still wouldn’t be able to enter it.
The current $55 per year deal is a lot better value than the old $50 per year license.
