Hi everyone, I’ve been using SketchUp these past few weeks. Since installing it, I’ve had the same problem, which I assume is related to the graphics. When I’m modeling and moving around the file, black lines start following the cursor and appear and disappear on the modeling screen (not in the toolbar). Half the time, this ends up crashing not only SketchUp but also my entire computer, causing it to freeze and requiring a restart. My HP laptop is brand new and has an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060. Other applications seem to work fine (Rhinoceros, D5, etc.). This happens with every version of Sketchup i use.
So far, I’ve tried everything I could find to fix it: updating drivers, changing SketchUp’s graphics settings to use the graphics card, disabling fast response and maximum texturing; reinstalling the application; and changing certain preferences in the Nvidia application (for example, using the preferred maximum power mode). Some days it seems to be fixed and the problem is gone, but when I log back in to continue working, the same thing starts happening again.
If anyone knows how to fix it or anything I can do about it, I would appreciate it.
Did you install SketchUp correctly? That requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator. Do you get Bug Splats when SketchUp crashes? If so, are you sending them in with your email address and name attached so they can be linked to you?
I was using version 2026 and the problem persists. I don’t receive any BugSplats; the computer simply freezes and I have to force a restart. I really don’t know what to do anymore.
I tried testing on an older version and the problem is exactly the same. I don’t have any extensions installed. I can be in a blank file and the black lines keep appearing randomly. They might not appear for 20 minutes and then suddenly reappear and crash the computer.
I bought a new desktop with an RTX 5060 and have had nothing but trouble with SketchUp only. I tried all the suggested fixes, like 10 of them and nothing helps. DDU, Registry fixes, NVIDIA software, BIOS, you name it, I did it and there is obviously some sort of conflict between Sketchup and these GPUs. I am sending this desktop back and getting one with a 4060 which I had no issues with. Of course no one will take responsibility for this. Not NVIDIA or SketchUp lol
I have this problem in my computer as well. Forced restart of the entire computer as well. Across our organisation Sketchup is incredibly unstable, even after installing latest versions. Occurs while using small or large models, our computers and GPU’s are fast. We use enscape a lot, which increases instability, but is not the sole cause. It wastes an incredible amount of time in our office, and would love a return to stability. 2023 was a more stable for all of us, but that has been abandoned now. I would love a fix for this.
