SketchUp Fails to Launch on Acer Nitro V15 - Process disappears from Task Manager

To the SketchUp Support Team,

I am writing to report a persistent issue where SketchUp fails to launch on my new laptop. I have already performed all the standard recommended troubleshooting steps without success.

System Specifications:

  • Laptop Model: Acer Nitro V15 (ANV15-51-52QB)

  • Operating System: [Windows 11 home single language]

  • SketchUp Version: [SketchUp Pro 2025]

  • Processors: Intel Core i5

  • Graphics Cards:

    • Integrated: Intel UHD Graphics

    • Dedicated: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050

Issue Description: When I try to open SketchUp, the SketchUp.exe process appears in the Windows Task Manager for a few seconds and then disappears completely. The application window never opens, and there are no error messages displayed on the screen.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Performed: I have meticulously followed all the common solutions for this type of problem, but the issue remains. The steps I have taken include:

  1. Forcing the Use of the Dedicated NVIDIA GPU:

    • I have set “High-performance NVIDIA processor” as the preferred graphics processor for SketchUp.exe in the NVIDIA Control Panel (Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings).

    • I have also set SketchUp.exe to “High performance” in the Windows Graphics Settings.

  2. Updating Graphics Drivers:

    • I have performed a clean installation of the latest official drivers for my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 directly from the NVIDIA website.
  3. Installing Essential Windows Components:

    • I have installed the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages (x64) to ensure all necessary dependencies are present.
  4. Running as Administrator:

    • I have tried running SketchUp as an administrator, both as a one-time action and by setting it permanently in the program’s properties.
  5. Full System Reset:

    • It is important to note that this issue persists even after performing a full factory reset of the Windows operating system on my laptop.

Despite all these efforts, the behavior is exactly the same: the process starts and immediately closes without any error.

Could you please provide further assistance or suggest any advanced diagnostic steps I can take to resolve this issue?

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,

CLEYTON

This is not needed, however you must run the installer as administrator

Download the latest version of SU from here: Download All | SketchUp
Right click on the downloaded installer file an choose "Run as administrator "
When prompted, choose "Repair "

Hi dezmo,

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have just followed your instructions precisely. I downloaded the latest official installer for my version, right-clicked the file, selected “Run as administrator,” and then chose the “Repair” option when prompted.

Unfortunately, the issue persists with no change at all. The SketchUp process still appears in the Task Manager for a few seconds and then closes instantly without showing any error message.

This is in addition to all the other steps I have tried, including forcing the dedicated NVIDIA GPU, clean installing the latest drivers, and reinstalling all necessary Microsoft Visual C++ packages.

Since the standard installation repair did not solve it, are there any more advanced troubleshooting steps you could recommend? For instance, are there any installation logs or crash report files that I could locate on my computer to provide you with more information about why the launch is failing?

I appreciate any further help you can provide.

Best regards,

CLEYTON

Was it working fine at one time?

Did you have a BigSplat or crash when working on a model just before this started happening?

You can try the following:

  • Uninstall SketchUp 2025 using Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features.
  • Restart your computer
  • Find and delete the following folders(and its content) if they are exist:
    c:\ProgramData\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025
    c:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025
    c:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025
    c:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2025
  • Restart your computer
  • Right click on the downloaded installer file an choose "Run as administrator " (as my previous post)
  • Restart your computer
  • Start SketchUp

Hi bmike,

Thanks for the questions. To answer you directly:

Yes, SketchUp was working perfectly fine on this exact laptop before this issue started.

The problem began very suddenly. There was no preceding crash, no BugSplat error report, or any other warning message. It simply stopped launching one day and started exhibiting the current behavior where the process appears briefly in the Task Manager and then disappears.

Thank you for your help.

I wonder what changed on your computer? SketchUp 2025 hasn’t changed for months.

It actually stopped working around two weeks ago, and I haven’t been able to get it running again.

It’s been months since there was an update for SketchUp 2025, though. First steps in basic troubleshooting is to look at what changed between when a thing worked and when it didn’t

Did you do ALL of what @dezmo directed in his previous post?

“I went through all the troubleshooting steps dezmo suggested, including the complete uninstall, deleting all the related folders, and reinstalling by right-clicking and selecting ‘Run as administrator’. However, it made no difference. When I try to open SketchUp, it just fails to launch with no error code or message at all.”

I have just completed this entire troubleshooting process, but the issue persists

I’m on a Mac, so beyond what I asked I can’t help much.

Do you save locally or to a cloud location (DropBox, OneDrive, etc.)?

I have seen issues where a corrupted autosave / recovery file creates issues launching SketchUp.

I do not know where these files are saved on a PC - on a Mac they are in the Library>Application Support folders under SketchUp 2025>Working. I’m not sure if those files are included in the ones that Dezmo had you delete.

No, everything is being saved directly on my local machine. I don’t use any of those cloud services

I just wonder if something in your firewall/antivirus/etc settings kills the SketchUp process at the moment it tries to open the Welcome screen that is actually a browser window.

Can you open an existing model file by double-clicking on it in a folder window?

Actually, this is an user forum and we are just fellow SketchUp users. To contact the Support team, open a support ticket through the SketchUp webpage.

Still wouldn’t affect the second part of my post about seeing if there is a recovered file that is corrupted.

I’ve disabled the firewall, but it didn’t help. The app won’t open, and I can’t open the SKP files by double-clicking them either

I’ve just performed a key test. I physically moved the SSD from my notebook into my desktop computer and booted from it. On the desktop’s hardware, SketchUp launched perfectly. This seems to confirm that the problem is not with the software or the operating system, but rather with the notebook’s hardware

Maybe try a fresh update of the graphics drivers from nVidia.

I’ve already tried that. I did a clean reinstall of the graphics drivers and even tried older versions, but nothing has worked.
