I think it may have been the fact that all the documents that I cannot open were open when the computer shut down. Could that have corrupted the files?
If they were corrupted colin would have needed his magic wand to open them and I wouldn’t have been able to open them at all. I had no problem with any of your files.
They all need purging of unused stuff and in the last one I see incorrect tag usage.

When you installed SU2022 did you right click on the downloaded installer and choose run as administrator to install it? If not, you should do that and choose the Repair option.
I think I was logged in as the administrator when I uninstalled and reinstalled SU2022. I can try doing a repair.
Logged in as administrator is not the same as right clicking and choosing run as administrator. Use your normal Windows sign in and then do as above. When the option appears, choose Repair.
I am not familiar with purging unused stuff in a model. How do I do that easily?
Go to Window>Model Info>Statistics and click on the Purge button. I use a plugin to do the same thing because it gives the report I showed but Purge in Statistics will get the job done.
I tried the repair and restarted and still cannot open several files. At this point, I’m just lost as to what could have caused this problem and how to fix it. It doesn’t make any sense that I can open the same file after I re-download it from here but cannot access others that are in the same location. I don’t expect you to fix my problems since they apparently aren’t a SU problem but do you have any suggestions?
Out of curiosity, what happens if you download the files you shared with us and try opening them? will they open? There have been cases where users have found that they can open files after they’ve been e-mailed or otherwise sent somewhere. No idea why it worked. Maybe it’ll work for you and it won’t take long to try.
I tried that and it works just fine. That’s really weird. I’ll try just emailing the others to myself and see if that fixes it.
Like I wrote, I have no idea why that works. Good luck.
I just sent a link to myself via email and I can open the file just fine. Thanks a bunch for the help on that problem and also on purging unused stuff! Have a great day!
Good deal and you have a great day, too.
hi @colin, any hope? thanks in advance!
I haven’t seen any comments from the developer yet. Sending something like that right before a weekend might cause a delay. It’s 8:15am Monday, I will be in a meeting with the developers in a couple of hours, if there is no news before then I will ask for an update.
I did get an update, and unfortunately the files are corrupted in some way that the developer is not able to recover the models.

There are some things that we have found ways to cope with, so that if a file has some problems, it will at least open, and if possible whatever the problem was will be fixed. Those changes get added to each new version, which means that 2022 had a better chance of opening the file than 2021 did.
So, I only had to open the file and save it again. Try this file, and if you see a message about it being created in a later version, don’t worry, the file should work in 2021.
It is a very demanding file, you could look at whether you have included some big components. There are nearly 10 million edges in the model.
Here’s my version of the file:
