I am in desperate need of help. I was working on my most important job project and the file has suddenly become corrupted. It completely refuses to open, and unfortunately, my standard .skb backup files are throwing errors too. This is a massive project for a client with a very tight deadline, and I am completely stuck.
The file size is still showing data, so I’m hoping the geometry is still in there.
@colin , I’ve read in the community that you are an absolute lifeworker with internal recovery tools. If you or anyone else on the SketchUp team has a moment to look at this, I would be incredibly grateful.
Bellow there’s the file link in wetransfer since it has 72mb
Unfortunately the last 45% of the file contains nothing but zeroes so there’s no possibility of recovering anything from that file. Did you try renaming the .skb backup copy to .skp to see if it would open? Were you saving a backup copy to your Trimble Connect storage? Have you looked for a copy of the file in User/AppData/Local/SketchUp/SketchUp 2026/SketchUp/working?
Where were you saving this file while you were working on it?
Thank you for the support
Unfortunately this morning before even opens the apps, I ran a routine temporary files cleaning that I do weekly to maintaing things clean.
I’ve searched all appdata files, locations, tried to change the file name, tried to open the .skb backup, tried to import them instead of opening, and even tried to restore the computer to a previous backup but it was a week ago.
Since the post, i’ve been able to open parts of the file that I had in Trimble cloud, and manage to find a file with less than a week.
i’m working on rebuild whatever i’ve lost, and from now on will make sure to save both the hard drive and a cloud copy for these unforseen events.
Oops! That’s the way it always seems to go, right? I figured I was never going to need that old rake so I threw it out. Now I can use it.
That’s good. Certainly better than not having saved it to Trimble Connect at all. Make sure when you are saving to the hard drive that it’s an internal drive.
Good luck going forward.
BTW, did you experience a power failure or something? I wonder what was going on that interrupted the save.
