SketchUp 2027 Mac – Fix for 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Not Working

Possible fix for 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse not working in SketchUp 2027 on Mac

I installed SketchUp 2027 on an Apple Silicon Mac and found that my SpaceMouse no longer worked. (every year) Reinstalling the current 3Dconnexion driver did not fix it.

It appears that the current 3Dconnexion installer installs the SketchUp plugin for SketchUp 2026, but does not install it for SketchUp 2027.

I was able to get the SpaceMouse working in SketchUp 2027 by manually copying the existing 2026 3Dconnexion plugin into the 2027 folder.

1. Quit SketchUp.

In Finder choose Go → Go to Folder… and enter:

/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2026/SketchUp/Plugins/

Note that this is the system /Library, not your user ~/Library.

2. Copy BOTH of these items:

3DxSketchUp(folder)
3DxSketchUp.rb(file)

3. Go to:

/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2027/SketchUp/Plugins/

and paste both items there.

You should end up with:

Plugins/3DxSketchUp.rb

and

Plugins/3DxSketchUp/

The 3DxSketchUp folder contains the supporting .rbe, .susig, and .bundle.plugin files.

4. Restart SketchUp 2027.

My SpaceMouse then started working normally.

The important part is copying both the 3DxSketchUp folder and the separate 3DxSketchUp.rb file. The .rb file is outside the folder and appears to be the loader that causes SketchUp to load the plugin.

It worked for me on Apple Silicon, but 3Dconnexion has not yet officially documented SketchUp 2027 support.

As of Friday, October 23, 2026 at 2 PM PDT… there is no new driver for macOS.
In the past 3DConnexion has been pretty quick about kicking out a new driver; so if all the steps above or a bit too much… I’m sure they’ll have a fix very quickly.

I hope you are right, but my experience has been other. In my memory they have been chronically slow both in fixing bugs and in updating their installer for Mac when a new version of SketchUp is released. Don’t get me wrong though: I am completely addicted to my space mouse.

I agree with you that using a space mouse in conjunction with modeling feels like a requirement. I think addiction is not even strong enough of a word. I feel like I have one hand tied behind my back when I don’t have the ability to use my space mouse.

I hope the proposed temporary solution above works for you.

~ me just complaining below ~

I don’t completely understand, (but can guess a possible reason) why doesn’t Extension Migration include the Ruby script for 3-DConnexion.

Obviously, it’s on an administrative level. and not the user level… and it’s an older driver that is unverified for the new release, but so too are many of the extensions.

Other then that… it works.

Yeah

Its responsibility of the developers to update their extensions, I’m sure that most of the developers are part of the beta testing program so they could get SketchUp 2027 some weeks before the official release, I don’t know if you use other extensions, in my case most of the extensions have been releasing updates the last few weeks and the release notes said that it was SketchUp 2027 compatible. There are companies like mindsight studios or 3D connexion that haven’t released an update, at least Mindsight on their website say that on October the 30th will be released the updates for all of their extensions, I bet that in the next few days there will be a new driver for Mac and windows to support SketchUp 2027.

yeah, usually we get similar thread for the first few weeks of a release.
few years ago, I think Aaron ended up making a tutorial explaining how he used a previous driver and applied it to the new sketchup by hand. because nothing official was coming.

Extension migration is not a very complex plugin. it simply transfers from one plugin folder to another.
if parts of a plugin are installed elsewhere, it won’t transfer.
if the plugin has a hard limit on what versions are compatible, it won’t work. that’s why you can’t simply copy enscape or vray, you have to redownload and reinstall.

3dconnexion is more complex than the average plugin because on one hand, it has to deal with sketchup, and on the other hand, with the os. and while microsoft basically doesn’t change, mac os releases a new version every year, and a new update every couple of month. both are good at breaking compatibility.

I don’t imagine that the issue is resolved yet as a fresh install of the latest driver turns my space mouse into a glorified scroll wheel.

What do the 3DConnexion folks have to say on the topic?

Good question, I sent them a support ticket.

I am using Windows. The latest driver works for me. Have you tried looking at the advanced settings?

Seems normal to me.

Is the wireless receiver selected or the SpaceMouse?

I don’t have a drop down in that area, only have a wired connection to the enterprise.
