SketchUp 2026 is here!

Hi Richard,

had a look at snaps, figured that an internal component, a line with a snap could produce the effect of a “scalable” snap position. As a line will not affect OCL and will naturally move on scale or set at DC attribute.

Bet your car pours a mean pastis though.

@tiagoricotta Did you have a look also at the reasons why there is no absolute scale accuracy on the viewport geometry dwg export out of Layout ? Currently there’s no way to export 2D dwg with both accuracy and Tag information.

You get accuracy but not tags out of sketchup, and tags but not accuracy out of Layout.

One cannot provide dwg`s to consultants without exact accuracy. If one does that one spreads accumulating small geometry problems all around the project when people share files, much like a virus.

I performed some exports from Layout, and the process works as intended for both tags and precision. This requires checking the scale and ortho settings in the SketchUp Model tray, as well as the export option for Model Space (Paper Space exports absolute measurements, while Model Space exports the scaled paper space size). In any case, I will share your comment with the appropriate internal team and QA personnel. A sample file would be helpful, if you have one.

I would have liked improved DWG directly from SU instead of having to go through Layout, but it is an improvement. Despite testing it a lot in beta, I’m still not sure I’ve played with it enough to fully comprehend all the possibilities and consequences in my work flows.

Hey Phil, I tested your solution! It works, even without the line but does the same scaling issue once another SNAP to the other end so that the panel can be selected and snapped to turn 90 at the other end. This is why I added the snaps to the non-scalable groups embedded in the component. Though collecting a snap from the panel once nested is impossible!

Downloaded SU2026, ran the install as Administrator (as have done with previous versions) and my custom toolbars and Trays are none existent. When can we get customization porting to new versions. I’m not ready to redo this again, not right now anyway  , so frustrating. Unless I missed a step in the install process. If I did please share, thanks.

Every major release of sketchup is installed as a new software, only minor updates keep all your preferences, trays, toolbars, templates etc. At least now we have the extension migration tool. If you don’t want to customize for now you can keep using sketchup 2025 and migrate slowly to 2026, unless you need to use the new features of sketchup or layout.

In the color tool of SU 2026 for Mac, I encountered an issue. When I applied a blue color to a face and then selected “In Model,” right-clicked on the blue material to edit it, and loaded a floor texture in the texture section, it did not change. I had to load the floor texture in Enscape’s material editor instead.

Please deeply consider adding the trim, extend, fillet and chamfer tools to SketchUp. featurerequest

Yes, that would be great.

Meanwhile, those features exist in the 1001bit pro plugin suite…

I also consider it the biggest upgrade in SU26, but it’s too limited for CD export.

  • The Section Cut is only 1 layer and doesn’t differentiate between different construction materials, (including only one type of hatch).
  • Out of 10 attempts, I managed to export to .dwg only once. I suspect that the .dwg export has limitations with heavier models (including plans and sections created with Curic Section or the 5D ecosystem — I couldn’t export them; the .dwg files are empty).

@JQL What’s your experience with exporting to .dwg? Have you tried larger models?
@Cyentruk — how do you find the 5D- Curic Section export LO to .dwg, or do you stick with Curic toCad?

Something we are actively working on correcting! It was my mission when I got hired to make it easier to upgrade version to version. The extensibility team started this with Migrate Extensions. Im hoping to bring it full circle here very soon.

Why don’t you export a Layout and then maintain it with curic to cad? If you need dimensions and labels you export those from Layout again.

@tiagoricotta

Hi

I make an SU model, Put that into Layout, make a dwg, and put that back into SU.

I made a model with some basic geometry, called “test model.skp”

In the Layout file that is represented in 1:100, top view, ortho. It gets accurate scaling, also in mm with 6 digits. I also make some Layout geometry, that will not get accurate scaling.

I make an dwg autocad 2010, and import that into a sketchup file called “test result.skp.”

I always get accurate scaling on the imports, so that means the dwg made from Layout is also not accurate.

This is the important thing to get accurate, as exported dwgs will be shared with others. If there’s some discrepancies then that will add up when everyone shares those back and forth and between each other, and suddenly there’s discpepancies everywhere, and that gets to bite one back when trying to snap to external geometry in SU, like when the engineer don’t put the column correctly because you fed them inaccurate geometry to begin with, and then that geometry has to go into your SU model, and then people ask can you not use Revit instead

All files are in the attached zip file

Would the 1001bit pro plugin suite be free, by any chance, or would we be adding more expense to what we have already paid for?

there’s a free version that also has fillet chamfer and extend

That’s what I’ve been doing- that’s why the SU26 upgrade, unfortunately, doesn’t help me.

As far as I remember the free version has those basic tools. But the full suite is like 50$ as a one time for life fee and there are so many powerful tools in there that it’s one of the best plugin’s I’ve ever bought ! It’s paid for itself many many times over.

whaaaaaaat? paying for pro tools ? what a disgrace ! :upside_down_face:
(good tool. I’ve used the free version, and later moved to other plugins that suits my needs. but a good toolset to know of anyway. worth its cost too)

I wonder if this could be linked to the classic floating point problem, some teeny tiny numbers don’t add up well. That plus the fact that no matter what unit you pick, the SU engine runs in inches.

you’re describing an export then import, so double translation.
