Does it mean what I think it means???
- Absolute accuracy of the Color By Axis style -
If that’s the case, that’s a super significant improvement. It should make the news!
I can’t check it myself until the IT team at my company install it…
In add location on the previous release there was an, maybe experimental, menu to select map datums, map kinds, like UTM32 euref89, in order to set proper location.
That menu is now gone. It seems the experimenting is to have a model origo that can be geolocalized. But its now restricted to latitude/longitude.
That is probably not useful for many people. One has different reasons for needing to geolocalize. I would use many aspects of it:
Some use GIS, some just need a common zero in collaboration, when exporting to IFC and dwg, but anyhow, that common map zero need to have a precise reference to the map type one uses locally.
So if its just latitude/longitude I guess nobody would use that..
In Norway as an architect one has to buy the map data, so guess getting exact proper maps will not be freely available. Still, if its possible to use the map you buy in conjunction with exact referencing in SU we would have come a long way.
Also, as Trimble own sketchup, and Trimble has software for bigger site work, all over the world, having a reference system that works in any local map system would be essensial
The issue was with the new graphics engine. How it decided whether an edge was on axis was different to the way the classic graphics engine did things. Roughly speaking, the classic approach was perhaps 40 times more accurate.
So, now the new graphics engine will be more correct in showing lines as being off axis, where before they would have seemed to be on axis. The accuracy of the classic graphics engine has not changed.
Oh, I had no idea the accuracy was better in the classic graphics engine.
Does it means that they have now roughly the same accuracy?
The classic graphics engine wasn’t absolutely accurately rendering Axis By Color either so I won’t switch back to it anyway, but it’s nice to know the gap is getting smaller.
@Odd_Haakon_Byberg is this the kind of thing you’re looking for? New in SketchUp Labs: CRS-based Geolocation in Add Location
It’s identical accuracy now.
So they are equally flawed.
“Face shadows may render incorrectly in models that contain section planes”
“Face shadows may display artifacts in certain models”
This is really really bad!
What is the ETA on a solution to not being able to turn off ‘fast shadows’ on the Mac?
Is there a place I can download the most recent 2026.1 release still?
https://web.archive.org/web/20260312045640/https://help.sketchup.com/en/downloading-sketchup, from which you can extract the direct links to the files: https://download.sketchup.com/SketchUp-2026-1-253-80.dmg & https://download.sketchup.com/SketchUp-2026-1-252-80.exe
Legend, thank you ![]()
If you want to take advantage of other fixes in 2026.2, you could go to Finder, Go, Go to Folder…, and paste in this path:
~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2026/SketchUp/PrivatePreferences.json
Edit that file in TextEdit, and look for this line:
“UseFasterShadows”: true,
Change that to false, save, and reopen SketchUp.
i am experiencing similar issues.
I don’t know if this is a known issue or it’s just me, but when I create a custom toolbar on windows with dynamic components or any AI feature on it, the next time I want to open SketchUp it will crash and won’t open again. It took me one week and three installations to figure it out, I haven’t created any custom toolbar and haven’t had any issue until now, it’s cumbersome for me not being able to able to create a custom toolbar with the native windows tool, I use toolbar editor but it works only with plugins and Fredo’s lord of the toolbars annoys me cause the toolbars it creates can’t be docked, they’re loose like on MacOS, I’m used to have a couple loose toolbars on Mac but on windows it annoys me cause that’s one of the features I like about SketchUp on windows and was really hyped when I tested the new GUI for Mac last year that was similar to the windows one. Anyways I don’t know if some developer can replicate my issue or it’s just my machine. @colin
SU just reminded me to update to .2.
First thing thats really visible upon starting is that the scene tabs have been altered again. Much wasted space around the scene names. Almost 4 characters in space wasted per tab. Why o why…For projects that need many scenes (almost all of mine) this is bad - having to use the arrow keys on the menu just to get the scene you want is… Really hope this gets fixed in the next version.

The ongoing change of the Sketchup Tabs that never really get fixed. in 2026.2 It now clips the Tab name if there are many tabs. and like @maxB “real” projects can have many tabs. Now a tab named “Section C-C” can look like “Section…” this is really useful if you have many section cuts each on a different Tab. I can remember dabbeling in programming back in the 1990’s and the tools of the day like C++ or what ever had a drag and drop tab bar that will make another row if the tabs over run the width of the screen. Why cant that be done??? The code already exists!!
The Tabs should also be the same regardless if you update from the Tab or the Scene Tray. The update check box available in the Scene Tray needs to be so it can be set. As an example to turn off updating the camera when updating the Scene.
Hi Max, Do you have a scroll wheel on your mouse? You can scroll left and right if you hover over the scenes, you can also use the search to find a specific scene. We are working on an update to improve scene management, but I cant say specifically when that will be available.
Hi @TedVitale_SU thanks for the reply and the suggestions. Hoping the scene management Improvements will make the experience better again. Will find a way to make it work for me in the mean time.
Hi, an older problem seems to have crept back in the latest release… the alt-paintbucket to switch to eyedropper has gone doolally again. Reading an old thread, it was an issue for some in 2025 (not me) but that thread got closed without a conclusion… anyway, with this latest release to get the alt+bucket to switch to eyedropper involves clicking outside the main workspace & coming back, which is really annoying when doing intensive material attribution work… Anyone else experiencing this ? Anyone found a solution ?
