Hi,
I’m having a very worrying issue with SketchUp Pro 2025 on Mac OS, version 25.0.659.
I’ve been using SketchUp for several years and I manage my views with scenes + tags.
The file is a renovation project with several floors, organized with groups and tags.
The scenes had been stable for months and were used in LayOut to produce PDFs without any issue.
For the last two days, the same problem has happened twice: some objects that were hidden in my scenes suddenly reappear.
The affected objects seem to belong to the same group / same area of the model.
The issue is visible directly in SketchUp, not only in LayOut.
The scene properties are correctly checked, including:
- Camera Location
- Top-Level Hidden Geometry
- Hidden Objects
- Visible Tags
- Active Section Planes
- Style and Fog
- Shadow Settings
- Environment Settings
- Axes Location
What is strange:
- My file from this morning around 10:50 is correct.
- The files from 16:50 and 18:00 have the issue.
- In between, I was mainly working in LayOut.
- I did not intentionally edit the scenes or change tag visibility.
- The file is stored locally on my computer, not in iCloud / Dropbox / OneDrive.
- Restarting the computer does not fix the affected scenes.
- I already had to reconfigure the scenes once two days ago, and the issue has now happened again.
Has anyone seen a case where scene visibility states for tags / hidden objects are overwritten or changed without intentional user action?
What checks would you recommend to diagnose the cause and prevent this from happening again?
Thank you.
I can provide both a working version of the file and a later broken version if that helps diagnose the issue:
More specifically, the issue concerns the instance named GR_RDC: either the whole instance or items inside that same instance reappeared in several scenes, even though they had previously been hidden in those scenes.
Are you using any extensions for creating or managing the tags or other elements in your model?
A lot of the sub objects inside this are separately tagged.
I also see some issue with tagged geometry. I fixed it here.
I also note youve create the main part of the model nearly a quarter of a mile from the origin.
Although that shouldn’t have any impact on tag visibility in scenes it can cause graphical issue. You should be keeping the model close to the origin.
Thank you regarding your answer ![]()
I’m not using any extension specifically to create or manage tags/scenes. I’ll list my installed extensions below.
Regarding tagged raw geometry, I understand that edges and faces should remain Untagged and only groups/components should carry tags. What I’m struggling to understand is why the file worked correctly for months and why the issue suddenly happened twice in two days, affecting the same instance / same area.
Also, thank you for pointing out the distance from origin. I’ll clean that up, although as you said it should mostly cause graphical issues rather than tag visibility changes.
Why are you using SkechUp 2025? Upgrade to SketchUp 2026 and see if the behavior goes away.
One other easy step is running the free extension CleanUp. I recently had a similar problem, and running CleanUp fixed the problem.

I use CleanUp3 as well. I like to run TIG’s extensions for dealing with incorrect tag usage and purging unused stuff because they are faster and generate reports that are easier to read for screenshots.
Good idea! I’m gonna test this, thank you ![]()
