I’m running into a sudden issue with SketchUp 2025 on my Windows 11 Home PC. The program opens to the welcome screen, but as soon as I click to open any file (even one I was working on just 2 hours ago), the entire application closes out completely. No new plugins, no new anti-virus. Nothing changed that I’m aware of. It wouldn’t allow me to select & delete something so I saved, closed out and restarted and now nothing will launch.
Things I’ve already tried:
Reinstalling SketchUp
Running a repair installation
Updating graphics drivers
Restarting system
Running as administrator
No Windows updates or system changes have occurred that I’m aware of. It literally just stopped working out of the blue.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on fixes or known issues with SketchUp 2025 and Windows 11?
Thanks in advance for any help!

So it was working but isn’t now? What changed on your computer right before it quit working? there had to be some change but SketchUp 2025 hasn’t changed in months.
Note that SketchUp 2025 doesn’t run very well with integrated graphics such as what you list in your profile.
Im not sure what your comment about integrated graphics means. I didn’t change anything today. The program got clunky and slow, so I closed out and restarted and now it won’t open any files. Is there a graphic setting I need to change or check?
You put “Intel Graphics” in your forum profile. That would be an integrated graphics adaptor not a discrete graphics card which is what is required for the graphics engine in SketchUp 2025.
Is it only slow with a specific model file? Share the file so we can see what you are working with.
You shouldn’t be running SketchUp as administrator. You should have used Run as administrator when you installed SketchUp. You could try doing that and choose Repair when prompted.
My guess from what you have said would be that you created a somewhat bloated model by downloading lots of stuff from the 3d warehouse. This model became unworkable and now when you try to open sketchup it is trying to recover that file.
Try holding down shift while you start sketchup, this should open it as a blank document and ignore the recovery that is failing.
I tried opening 2025 by double clicking the icon while holding Shift. It took me to the Welcome Page. It didn’t bypass to a blank sketchup file. Am I doing this incorrectly?
Then go into AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2025 and delete login_session.dat After that, do a cold reboot of your computer and try starting SketchUp again.
I downloaded the file and tried opening it and it still crashed. What’s weird is that it’s now showing your file Smith PURGED in my recent files despite not having opened
Sorry I didn’t get back to it before now. My next suggestion would have been to delete another file. Renaming the SketchUp 2025 folder effectively did the same thing.
Just a follow up note. Your processor is quite slow and your graphic card is integrated. This combination is really at the lower limit of what Sketchup needs.
So that makes it important for you to keep a close eye on your modelling. Purge regularly, don’t use overly complex models from the warehouse, keep your textures/materials under control (as in don’t use huge image files for simple colours). Don’t work with shadows turned on, use ‘fast’ styles etc
