SketchUp 2025 constantly crashes when trying to export a scene animation. As soon as the export starts (or after a few frames), SketchUp shuts down without any clear error message.
What I’ve tried:
Switching to the classic graphics engine
Reduced export resolution and frame rate per second
Disabling all extensions
Copying geometry to a new file
Upgrade to the latest version SU 2025
Information about the system:
SketchUp 2025 (build: v25.0.634)
OPERATING System: Windows 10
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060
Has anyone else experienced similar crashes? I would appreciate any advice or ways to fix them. Thank you in advance!
video texture IS an extension. Plus, it is marked as compatible with sketchup 8 to 2015…
You should try twinmotion that is free for <1M$ income, it’ll allow you to integrate any video with ease
Hello!
Thanks for the feedback and recommendation — I will definitely watch Twinmotion.
I developed the “video texture” plugin myself with the help of AI. It is designed for expos and exhibitions to quickly show videos directly in SketchUp without transferring models to other editors.
Yes, you’re right — I’m still using my own extension.
At this point, it’s hard to say exactly what’s causing the crash during animation export in SketchUp 2025. It might be related to how textures or graphics are handled in the new version. I’m currently trying to figure out whether the issue comes from the plugin itself or if it’s a general bug. I’d really appreciate any ideas or suggestions you might have!
No, I haven’t sent any reports to the SketchUp developers yet. I haven’t encountered such errors before, and other plugins I created using AI haven’t shown similar issues. When I stop the video in real time, SketchUp exports the scene without any problems. However, when I enable the plugin and it starts the video on a flat surface, difficulties arise when trying to export the animation. At first, the issues were minor, but then they became more significant.
So you ARE getting Bug Splats but not sending them in? If you did send them in @colin could look them up and tell you what’s likely failing. Since we don’t have your extensions and your model there’s little hope for us to tell you what is causing the crashes.
Thank you for the suggestion! If I send you the plugin, would you be able to help finish it, especially the export part? Or maybe someone else could assist with this? It would be great to receive the updated version after the analysis.
We will know IF you send in some BugSplat! reports. The SU Dev Team uses them to prioritize maintenance work. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” The more reports of that crash type will move it up in priority.
