Sketchup 2017 Pro Locking up

It could be something as simple as that, couldn’t it? And you and other ‘sages’ are out there deflecting the wrath directed towards SketchUp generated from stuff like this… my congratulations to any/all of you doing yeoman’s work so politely and professionally! I’ll keep posting… although I might switch to an alias after my ID Ten T error incident with monitor cables :worried:

Things are sometimes complicated. At work, once, I noticed that connecting a Lenovo laptop (an older “workstation” model) to an external monitor through its dedicated “dock” turned off all OpenGL support and switched the display to 16-bit colour. Probably that too switched the Nvidia graphics off. I have been a bit wary of such things since.

Hi All!
Making progress on this issue… picked up an HDMI to Mini Display port adapter today and got the display to run through the NVIDIA K1200 Quadro graphics card… FINALLY! Added SketchUp to a list of applications through the card management app and the cursor delay problem is GONE! Other modeling actions were pretty flaky initially: the spacebar wouldn’t ‘drop’ selected tools, move + ctrl didn’t want to work, etc but as I’ve messed around with it a bit by starting and shutting SU down a few times things seem to be improving. A GPU Utilization graph app is showing activity now but only 10% or so while running a simple SketchUp model.
Would it be considered typical for the graphics card and SU software to ‘get used to each other’ or is that a fig newton of my imagination?
I assume there’s another forum thread somewhere that covers various GPU settings like antialiasing, etc and any direction to one that pertains to the context of this thread would be helpful.

In the meantime I hope others find the help I’ve received from Sages for this saga helpful… I sure have! Thanks, All!!!

The GPU’s 3D settings like anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering should be application controlled.

Catamountain,
Somehow with patient coaching from you and others I’ve muddled through this ‘delayed cursor action’ epic and SketchUp Make 2017 is now working WONDERFULLY for the first time in over a month!!

It seems too simple (to me) that merely switching from an HDMI cable to a Mini DP/Mini DP cable from the monitor to my NVIDIA graphics card was the solution but it is apparently what resolved the problem in my particular circumstances. I’ll never know what caused SU to work one day and not the next but I don’t need to. I’d suggest to anyone following this thread without resolution to make sure they give a cable upgrade a try!

I’ll not sweat the anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering stuff you mention as apparently SU and GPU have got everything straightened out

Best,
Matt Jackson
