Sketchup 18 crashed when opening

#1

Hi,

My sketchup 18 crashes when I open the program and click start using sketchup. I can’t do anything in the program and I have a deadline this week.
I think the issue started when I ironically downloaded a bug zapper lamp from the 3d warehouse and opened the file… Since then I can use sketchup. I’ve deleted sketchup and reinstalled it, I’ve deleted all my files, I’ve turned off reopen pages in my Mac general settings, I’ve tried deleting .Plist files and renaming plugin folder but nothing works!

When I open sketchup the program still asks me if I want to reopen last windows or not even though i’ve turned the setting off from my mac settings… I feel like this might be part of the issue

#3

Indeed ironically…
Have you tried turning of the computer, yet, or just restarting?

#4

Yeah I’ve restarted the laptop a few times

#5

In Finder, did you go to ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp/SketchUp 2018 ?
That is were the (user) pluginfolder resides

#6

use Terminal.app to open a ‘fresh’ SU…

open -F /Applications/SketchUp\ 2018/SketchUp.app

#7

Not sure what plugin i’m meant to delete though, I’ve tried changing the plugin folder name before but that didn’t achieve anything.

#8

Hi John,

When I try that it still produces a bugsplat

#9

Sketchup works in a test user on my mac but won’t work on my main account.

#10

This means something in your main account is installed that is causing the issue. That’s good news. Means you can start disabling other software or additions to begin narrowing it down. If that can’t be done in time for deadline, at the very least you have it running on one account.

#11

You don’t say explicitly…are you submitting the BugSplats to Trimble? The development team takes BugSplats seriously and have the technical insight and source code access to understand what they mean. If you include contact info in the report, they will get back to you, and if you mention this forum topic they may (or may not) also share info here if it appears to be a more widespread issue or bug. Some of us here on the forum are pretty technical, but we are independent volunteers with no access to the SketchUp source code.

That said, in the initial post you attached what appears to be an extract from the system log? The system log often contains progress info, warnings, etc. that have nothing to do with the actual cause of the crash (such as the reports about classes found in more that one library - a harmless error that SketchUp on Mac has had for years and does not cause crashes), and gives those purely hexadecimal stack traces that even an expert can’t decipher. It would be more valuable to attach the actual crash report from

/Users/user/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports

You should be able to find a file there with extension .crash and starting with “SketchUp”. If there is more than one, choose one with a date and time you know corresponds to one of these crashes. This is what BugSplat sends to Trimble.
