I use SKATTER to make some railings,
all same composition - one object, with number of hosts.
I want each host to become a group by itself,
but unfortunately the result is all grouped together as one group
How can I change it to be separate group for each host?
For example in the Attached jpg I have 2 host groups (one like piano + 1 rectangle),
same composition, but the result is one group for all of them, while I want them to be separated .
I use the latest version of Skatter.
I think it was different in past.
Is it posible to revert to older version?
Are the two objects inside the “big” group also groups? If so, drill down inside the “big” group and apply you Skatter objects to each of the other groups one at a time. If that does not work the break up the “big” group and address each of the other groups one at a time.
Although I have not used Skatter in a while, I have had models with several groups and have not had problems.
I’m not sure if it’s possible to ‘downgrade Skatter’. I’ve considered in the past as I was more comfortable with the UI of v01.
Short answer is there is no way to separate Skatter ‘groups’ within a single Composition.
Edit: I think I misunderstood your original ask. Here’s how I’d do it:
Just do one Skatter composition for one group/host. Then copy that composition. In the ‘Composition Manager’, choose the copy and ‘Edit’ it. Delete the original host group and choose the new one.
Note that this process ‘disconnects’ the two so that if you want to make changes later, you’ll have to repeat the process. But it only takes a second so shouldn’t be too big a deal. Does that answer your question?
Hi Eric
First of all I am sorry for the delay, I have just now so your answer.
Thank you very much for it
I understand your answer,
but unfortunately no, it can not help me for the specific file.
In my case I have big tall many floors building, with maybe 30-40 terrace railings, many of them different shape from each other, but all of them same kind of railing.
I wanted to make them all same railing, with differnet hosts,
and then it would have been very easy in case of chane, to change all of them together in one shot, means one composition.
Yet I wanted each terrace to be in separate group, part of it’s own floor and appartment,
and not all of them together.
If I will do it the way you offer, each change will have to be done in many compositions, and that is exactly what I wanted to prevent.
I have written a mail one week ago to Lindale, who is the owner of Skatter, with my question, but unfortunately I have not yet got an answer from him.
Hi, the big group is the result of the Skatter composition.
The original groups are the inside two groups,
and after making same composition for both of them, they became a new outside group which include both of them
Hi MihaiThank you very much !! Yes, it can be an alternative option. Yet not always. Depends…
For example if the object is an area with grass, then it will not be possible.
By the way, How do you insert new profile railing to the profile builder library ?
