Shape Bender distorting

Hi all,

I am working on a curved stair with railing using Shape Bender but my handrail along with some of my steps keep distorting. Any tips? I have my straight line the same length as my curve and have enlarged my stairs to match this length.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Distorting how? Be specific.

Share the .skp file so we can see how you have things set up. The placement of the straight line relative to the component being bent is critical.

The handrail itself is chopping and isn’t following the stair curve. My bottom step is also oddly angled.

I don’t know what you mean by “chopping” in this context.

You have set up the straight line’s position incorrectly.

Since the curve represents the outside of the staircase the straight line needs to be positioned along the outside of the straight stairs.

After moving the line to the right location I moved both it and the curve straight down to make that line easier to select while running Shape Bender. Then I rain it and I got this.

I moved the line to the correct location and ran it again. This is what I keep getting.

I don’t know what you’ve done differently. Looks like maybe not all of the segments in your curve were welded before you initiated Shape Bender.

I’m not seeing that strange geometry at the top like you show and the curve doesn’t extend out past the bottom of the stairs like yours. On mine it only extends to the end of the handrail as would be expected.

My curve is welded so I also dont know what is happening. Is it possible for you to send me your sketchup? I just cant seem to get this specific stair to work as Ive done others without issue
