Shadows glitch when 'hide rest of model'

Hi, I’m getting a shadow bug whereby the shadows do not present correctly when toggling on ‘hide rest of model’ when in a group/component. It’s almost as if the elements that are turned off (and shouldn’t be casting any shadow) are casting some sort of ghost shadow. Assume this is a bug as this issue isn’t present in SU2017.

Thanks for any help

hello,

Shadows Projecting when Editing Component / Group - #7 by colin

it is a bug indeed, and I’m often facing it
they are aware of it as my link shows, but we don’t know when it’ll be fixed

If you need to show the correct shadows, the current solution would be to … go back a version (or two, three) … why i still need to fall back to sup22 for my ‘correct’ shadowstudies.

It helps future Me when I add a bug report number to my posts. Present Me has added a link to this discussion to the bug report. That should be enough to get the bug looked at again.

I’d like to voice my support for fixing this bug! My workflow includes shadow studies and the bug reduces the utility of the program for me greatly. The older versions turn shadows off when editing a group with hide rest of model turned on. That’s how it should be! Thanks!

Want to keep this bee in the bonnet of the SKP programmers. Need a fix! Older versions are better.

Also, add the default material button back to the old l9ocation in Materials tray.

If you Programmers want to chat on things to improve, or revert back to, I would be up for it. I’ve used it daily since it was @LastSoftware.

The coders are usually too busy to spend much time here in this user forum.
But more likely to see QA or product managers visit here more often.

As said, it has been logged into Jira internally as SKOR-19579. ping @StudioSKP (Cassidy)

For a temporary workaround, when dealing with shadows and not at the top level of the model:

Assign a shortcut to the View > Component Edit > Hide Rest Of Model menu command and quickly cycle the setting off then on again. From my quick test, this forces the rendering to be recalculated correctly.

I’ve always had this shortcut, and it would be wonderful if it was that simple ! unfortunately, nothing is recalculated and the problem persists no matter how many times you toggle.

Also important to note that it occurs with both classic and new graphics engines

Correct. More extensive testing shows the cycling does not work for released 2025 versions.

But it does in an yet unreleased version.

Sorry for “jumping the gun” as to a current workaround.
