Don’t know if this is a workaround. What about making a default component (can be anything at all) and geolocate it. Then, when you get this happening, import the default component to reset things. Haven’t tried it though.
Do the folks at SketchUp monitor this forumn? Is there anyway to “officially” ask them to look into rectifying this problem in a future fix?
In your original screenshots, a BIG difference is that in the second, the “Use sun for shading” is toggled ON, but OFF in the first.
Another thing not mentioned is anything about the ceiling. Do both models one ? or none ?
… or are they both transparent ?
I suppose we should just ignore the floating wine bottles. 
Use sun for shading isn’t the issue here…that doesn’t change the shadow locations. Ceiling is on in both.
Wine is magical…
