It’s not the SketchUp version. That’s been clearly explained in this thread. You would expect that a company like Microsoft would be able to put out updates that don’t make things difficult for its users. This problem affects more than just SketchUp users, too.
Also, as has been explained, there is a patch/script that can be run to help mitigate this problem for users of SketchUp 2018. It doesn’t work with older versions, however.
It worked for me too re-installing the driver every win updates but the wth last windows update someting heppened and trying to reinstall intel drivers does not work anymorr
I’m on SU 2018 Pro and the issue appeared a few weeks back on my laptop running Windows 10 Home with Intel® HD Graphics 4000. The patch did not work for me; nor did updating or rolling back graphics card drivers. Rolling back Security Update KB4056892 solved it.
Stopped W10 from reinstalling KB4056892 by setting my Wi-Fi network connections as metered:
Select Start > Settings > Network & Internet.
Select Wi-Fi > Advanced options > Set as metered connection.
Of course this is not a permanent fix; would expect Trimble to have a chat with MS to sort this issue.
Hello, so basically I have the same trouble and already read the solutioun based on the newest issue. I already uninstall KB4056892 but nothings happen. It still slow for 5 seconds. What should I do? Fyi, when I checked on my update history, it said that i failed to install KB4056892. Thank you
I had the same problem. Now I solved this problem in my way. You also can try it below way!!
You need to understand your situation.
Surface book 2, there are 2 graphics devices (NVIDIA / Intel graphics UHD 620)
Main graphic driver is the NVIDIA graphics. However, I think the graphics drivers are not perfectly fit with the laptop even seems like no problem. The driver just installed basic one from MS. So I installed the maker’s driver.
Solution 1. Re-install the NVIDIA driver.
Delete NVIDIA driver on device manager. (Do not restart win otherwise Win will automatically install its driver again)
Go to NVIDIA web page to get the latest driver and install it.
Restart PC.
You will see the NVIDIA menu when you click the right button of mouse on the desk top.
Set the graphic options such 3D or opengl something like this. It is better to set this NVIDIA as main graphic driver.
After install the NVIDIA program, you can use sketchup without any problem.
Actually, I tried un-install win updated files as many people mentioned but not really works.
Solution 2. How to use the Intel UHD 620 driver??
Yes, now sketchup is working fine but I still cannot use the sketchup on tablet mode. There will be no mean that I bought this Surfacebook 2. So, I found another solution for this.
Please go to the below page and install the SW. Yes, I know someone may saw error message and couldn’t install this driver and give up this installation because you cannot see any problem on it. BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT. Download Intel Drivers and Software
There are 2 types of files (EXE and ZIP). Please download ZIP file and unzip on somewhere you know on PC.
Open the device manager and click the display.
Click Intel Graphics UHD 620 and select update menu.
Please select the 2nd menu Browse my computer for driver software
Select the below menu Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
Browse for folder → find your unzip file → Have to SELECT “Graphics” folder → you will see the file.
Re-start windows.
Now you will see the Intel Graphics UHD 620 menu when you right click on the desktop.
Set the programs and put the sketchup on the list. Something like this…
Everything works fine now.
Hope you also solve the problem.
I posted this over 6 months ago and decided to check in to see if anyone solved this problem. Apparently it’s not solved, so I ask the question again. Why is it when I come across the slow selection tool process that, if I restart my computer, the problem goes away. Without any changes. Without deleting any Windows Updates. Without changing or updating my graphics driver. Just restarting and it works fine. I’ve been using SketchUp continuously for the past 6 months and other than the annoyance of occasionally restarting my computer, it’s been working. Anyone?
Did SketchUp 2017 ever work on Bootcamp? It’s not technically supported for Bootcamp. Are you running Parallels and if so, is it the version that has at least GL 3.0? I’ve seen issues with that before.
Also, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling SketchUp 2017? After High Sierra, everyone needed to re-download SketchUp.
A few solutions for this for Windows users, with separate solutions for SketchUp 2017 and SketchUp 2018:
For 2017: This is often a computer issue caused by a faulty Windows Update that messed with the graphics card settings. So far most people have been able to fix the problem with the steps below:
For SketchUp 2018:
With SketchUp Pro 2018, we have a way to fix the issue with the Select tool caused by the recent Windows Update. Using the link below, you’ll find a script that helps correct the slow cursor issue that you’ve come across. Please note that this is set at the User Account level so it will need to be set for every user on a given computer. Please fill out this form so we can gather more information about this issue. The fix is at the end of the form: SketchUp Selection Lag in Windows 10
(that fix only works for 2018, not 2017)
It was a simple matter of installing it “as administrator.” I did delete it, and then reinstall it, but I understand that I didn’t have to delete it.
While I’ve not worked on it as much as I was on my Mac’s OS, I just opened it, and it’s working fine.
FYI: The screen and all the icons and text are larger on my Mac. I now have to squint to work on SKU on Windows! Can’t win for losing? Maybe there is a way to increase the images on Windows that I don’t know of!
And I am using Bootcamp.
