I use the pro version on a pc or mac for large projects, but I bought the ipad as I am on the road for work a lot, and I thought I could use the trip time to complete drawings. Trying to select vertices or anything precise is almost impossible. It would be great if something like the lasso tool could be used to select vertices when drawing, moving etc. Basically rather than long pressing, circle the vertices for origin and draw as normal using inference and directional locks. Maybe this is already doable, but I havent figured it out.
Hi @nailbanger138
I’m trying to visualize what you’re asking for, but having a hard time imagining. Are you wanting to select geometry vertices to move or otherwise transform those vertices or are you trying to draw to specific vertices and in specific directions? If you are looking for inference locking, most of the drawing tools like the line and rectangle tool offer sub-tools that lock the drawing to a specific axis. The same goes for the move, rotate and other transform tools.
really, all the above. If I am tryingto precisely select vertices for something, a little bump or jostle usually leads to selecting some neighboring line, point, or interesection. I know how to use the inference locking to control direction, but selecting origin or end points is very difficult. Granted, I am sure this was never the intended use case, but it sure would make things easier.
Not to step on Rene’s toes, but I don’t even bother to actually select them. Inferencing serves me well for the most part. Approaching a vertex with a specific tool (line, move, etc) brings up an inference dot and allows me to immediately enact what I want to do, sans preselection.
I tend to use SketchUp for more abnormal purposes, so I’m not sure that actually helps you.
Is there a specific use case for you where preselecting them is desired?
As mentioned, when i am a passenger in a vehicle, it us very difficult to not select unwanted items due to the jostling about.
